What's the best year/model for a 57

Sorry, I know that the sm57 isn't exactly high end but this question never got answered in the "So much gear" section.

Should I stay away from the 'LC' model?
I've heard a lot of people say that they like "Old ones" Are we talkin' 10 or 30 years here?

Thanks, Paul.

I'd be verysurprised if the same people didn't read both forums.
You might have wait a bit for a reply.
You never know there might notbe an answer to this particular question.

About 5 years ago, I bought 6 used SM57's that all sound better to me than ones I've heard that were made in 2001. I don't know what Shure changed, if anything.

all of my 20+ year old 57's sounded better than all of the less than 5 year-old 57's....i have no idea why...perhaps the materials used in caps arent as 'good' or simply different....kinda like the difference in 'old' guitar pickups as opposed to 'new'

10years ago I bought 5 sm's at the same time.
they all sounded different, in fact 2 of them sounded really crappy.
Av few days later I asked the guitar player to use another guitar, he sounded awful,.............., that's how I discovered the bad mikes

btw, same happened with 2 D112'sheh

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll just buy a bunch off Ebay and re-ebay my least faves.

It looks like some 57s have cursive lettering rather than the usual script. Are these of any consequence?
