2 buss compression with only 1 mono compressor!

We are working in a small project studio. They only have one trakker which we have been using to track. How crazy would it be to run the final uncompressed stereo mix back into protools via the trakker one channel at a time?

Would this work?

It's a bad idea. If you're doing only about 1 db of GR you might get away with it, but most likely you'll get an ugly little image shift with panned toms and such...

Rent a unit. Mono compression one channel at a time is wack. I've tried making it work way too many times.

not impossible... but probably not optimal. . .

Create a mono-summed aux-send from your stereo mix in protools and use it in the sidechain for each pass through the compressor. This is how many stereo units "link" their gain-reduction action anyway..

or consider hiring a mastering engineer and don't compress your mix at all. That's what guys like Brad are for .yuktyy
