Food for thought ...

Who do ya'll think is the next "Rupert Neve" ....
Can anybody out there command the respect this fine gentleman/designer has enjoyed and rightfully deserved over the past 35+ years .... Is anyone capable of filling such revered shoes for the next 35+ years yuktyy

Let's test our psychic abillities

What made Neve(not just Rupert) special was the team that built and developed the products. Geoff Tanner speaks about it all the time, the unsung heroes of Neve. Remember Rupert stop designing early on. So if you ask me, a company with a good R&D department, forward thinking designers and musical minded people.

I also like Dave Hill stuff and Hutch over at Manley.

Dan Kennedy,DW Fearn, Tim de Paravinci(The EAR guy) are all cool designers.

When Dave left Summit Audio and started CraneSong, I found myself never looking at the summit gear the same again.

Had he continued doing electronics instead of concentrating on microphones, Dirk Brauner might have come close. (I still really want to hear the limiter he built...)

But I agree with everyone else - Dave Hill ad Hutch are both amazing.

Re: Re: the next NEVE

I admit Dave Hilll was in the forefront of my mind when posing the thought ...
Perhaps then more appropriate question might be .. Who has the POTENTIAL to compete with DH for such an honor and how many paces behind DH ar they Might we have the spirited debate that I thought could happen rollz

I must admit I'm a little surprised not see Dave Derr (Empirical Labs) among the secondary names, considering how popular his products are.

Excellant point ... which begs the question .. does Dave Hill have a "Design Team/R&D Dept" or is it all the the sole genius of DH and would that be sustainable for a few decades yuktyy

Not fair - Rupert did cool stuff for maybe 10 years - most everything else has been crap.

Sure. I'll catch one, post about how great the "vintage digital" sound is on the "Best Gear for Under $Blah" forum, and sell it on ebay for it's worth in gold.

I think Greg Gualtieri definitely deserves a most honorable mention. The Pendulum Audio stuff is pretty awesome!
