In a sense "warmth" is a catch-all term for "pleasing character" in terms
of sounding smooth rather than somewhat strident to me.
Having the first 30+ years of my life listening to vinyl LP's probably
conditioned me to liking analog over digital more than it might have

I wonder how much of this "conditioning" affects even mastering engineers?
We are associative creatures after all.

well knox... thats you. i dont mind staring at a computer screen at all. i have done it 8-14 hours a day for a better part of the past 7 years. like your clients that come to you for your vibe and experience, people come to me for mine and how i can molest a computer. i can do things on it that make peoples jaws drop constantly.

as for you not liking any plugins... man, you should REALLY try altiverb.... convolution will be the future of digital processing, its just that computers are just way to slow to run so much processing at once for a full on mix.

SACD is already making analog diehards smile again. im sure 32/384 would be the tits as well.... again, processing and disk access speeds play a role in that happening. BUT like i said, only the surface of digital has been scratched, analog on the other had has reached its upper limit and still has pitfalls to the technology. even using the analog frontend on a digital system reveals flaws in analog designs.

i dont know if i would be wishing for dick cancer, but that is your perogative.
