crane song spider + motu 2408 original

I'm looking to update my gear and I'm thinking of purchasing a spider. However I need to get the spider a/d into my computer. I currently own a motu 2408 (original model). I was wondering if went out of the spider into motu 2408 adat or tdif would there be any loss of quality. Thanks, Rob Keeler

Nope. Just makes sure the MOTU clocks to the spider.

You'll love the spider. I sure do!

You can clock the MOTU from the Spider [it'll help big time!!]... and there is a version of the Spider that does 'light pipe' out on the individual outputs as well as the 2 buss outputs... so you should be all set.

Make sure that the 2408 will pass 24 bits. I'm pretty sure that the A/D part is 20 bits. It could truncate on the ADAT I/O.

Truncate... or use the 'dither' algorithms in the Spider...

The original 2408 passes 24 bits on all it's digital I/O. The A/D and D/A converters are 20 bit, on RCA unbalanced jacks, but this won't affect anything if your going in digital via the Spider's converters. HTH

MOTU is just about to ship the MK3, my guess is better clock, and 96k support will be there for sure. Might be time for an upgrade. Also, the core card will support 192 for all those dog hearing clients plus HD support. The old one still does 24bit, but forward compatibility suggests you upgrade. Convertors just keep getting better.

If you have more questions about this, e-mail me off the list.
