How does it affect the midrange? Is it mainly just a low end thing or does it noticeably sweeten the mids?

I did it for the midrange. Hard to describe but I like it better with the low cut bypassed; this was Klaus Heyne's recommendation and I tend to trust his advice. It's really subtle tbh, but worth doing as it's so easy.

I also have U67 reissues and I snipped the low cut in those as well; similar shift in the midrange, and an improvement in the low end.
