Compare a real AKG BX20E to Altiverb 6.0

Here we go again. This is my last post like this. I tried to get settings close. But they're far from perfect.

I bought a brand new Bx20e in the 70s and had it for 15 years or so. I think #2 is the real thing.

Now watch me be wrong just like I was on the 140 comparison.

these 2 sound NOTHING alike! and not just because they're panned opposite.

#2 sounds incredibly chalky on the top, very noticeable on the snare. actually, #2 doesn't really sound like a spring reverb to my ears, although i do like it on the voice and guitar.

so i'm going on record that #1, to my ears, is the real deal.

well, i'm not familiar with the hardware or software you mention but i think 1 sounds nicer, so i'll assume that's the hardware.

Is this an A/B based on an IR you created yourself? If you are comparing the 'preset' that comes with Altiverb to a real one, you are wasting your time, for two reasons:

1 -- You don't know how the IR was made.

2-- You don't know what the BX20 from which the IR was created sounds like.

I love Altiverb, but some of the IRs, especially the hardware, have issues. For example, I made my own AMS RMX IR's, before the set became available on the Audio Ease site. Mine just plain sound better. I've done IR's on several pieces of gear and spaces -- spring reverbs, real rooms, and other hardware reverbs. I have found that when I take the time to get the best possible IR, the results are pretty damn great.

Cheers,
John

makes sense. i've Qcloned Pultecs and different pres and it's gotten scary close, and with different verters the difference isn't exactly subtle to my ears.

Akg BX20

Hi!!!!
I am interested in buying a Akg bx20 and i'm looking someone who understands the akg
I researched but I have a question about the difference in the models.
What difference between bx20e akg, akg akg bxe1 and bx20L?
I have also seen between these two variants one with 3.5 and another with 4.5 sec.
If you are kind enough to answer me, I'm very concerned about it.
Thank you very much!

Albert
