Maybe this is helpful. Vocals were recorded with a Millennia HV-3D.

What a sound. Which mic/comp combo was there used with the Millennia?

The chain was the Manley Silver into the Millennia HV3D / no hardware comp.

I am a big Millennia fan, but I have to point out that the HV-3D wasn't even close to the most important thing in that signal chain. Ranking the elements by importance, they are:

1. Shelby
2. Josephson capsule
3. Manley tube + transformer head amp
4. Millennia preamp

The job of the preamp in this case was not to mess up the tonality of the other ingredients, which is exactly the situation in which you want a HV-3.

I have one! And a HV-3D 8 channel. I’m seriously considering an Origin. I used to use it a lot in a studio I worked in. It was my go to. Love that thing.

The difference between this stuff is subtle.

If I record a vocal with a 47 > BAE 1073 > Retro STA Level.

Then 47 > STT-1 in full fat mode. Transformer, tube pre, tube compressor.

Then compare the two .... the first chain is a touch thicker for sure but not by as much as you'd imagine, I was very surprised when I first AB these two chains.

The STT-1 is definately a great unit, very flexible and capable of plenty of colour.
