Wunder CM7 users question (also U47s?)

Should the Wunder CM7 be used upside down?
I have read some threads that have not resolved this for me.
Mike might want to chime in.

The mic is awesome by the way.

I use mine (CM7) upside-down all the time. Always
when I'm doing voice-overs and the talent needs
to be able to read the copy or when a musician needs
to have music or lyrics in view while on mic. There's
really no other (good) way in those situations.

I also sometimes use it sideways for Acoustic. My
absolute favorite mic for acoustic gtr!

As for a self heat, it does not matter if the mic is upside down or not. The heat from the mic will not hurt the capsule since it is not 50 year old PVC. Depending on the source, the orientation of the mic can change the sound especially close up. For my vocals I prefer the Abby Road way, right side up. This gets body of the mic out of the way of my face if I want to get close to the capsule which is at the top of the grill. The upper grill frame does cross if front of the capsule acts an additional pop filter. Sometimes I will have the mic right side up & I will have someone hang me from the ceiling of the studio and spin me for a Leslie effect ala Lennon.

My CM7 is always hanging upside down. I haven't noticed a difference in tone, but I *have* noticed that for whatever reason it inspires me more. I just feel so much hipper singing into a mic suspended like that.

And as long as I feel hip, right?

Yeah, it's just logistics really. I like to angle the mic away from the singer about 30 degrees and a little up. Helps reduce plosives etc and I don't like pop filters. You can't do this with the mic right side up...
