TAB Funkenwerk V72S

Who here uses or has had a good listen to the TAB Funkenwerk V72S preamp? What is your opinion of it? How would it compare to something clean like a GML pre?

Thanks

not a very good review

they are great grggt
not complete classics like the earlier valve 76's
but a very usful addition ... its hard to describe..
they are top at wot they does innitrollz
much rather have one than a gml or anysuch
they are powerful rich yet clear ...the exact opposite of me

Well my current tube pre is a UA 2-610. I like it. It boosts the mids and highs and doesn't seem to **** up the lows.

Anyone know how the V72 would compare to the 610?

Nope, the V72 IS a tube pre, you are thinking about the V672.
The V72 has no gain control , it`s fixed at 40dB gain.
Adding a gain pot is a easy mod.

I have a TAB-Funkenwerk V72s and I absolutly love it (surprise, surprise...)
they are very thick yet very detailed sounding.
the most amazing part of that box aside from sonics is there are NO vents or any type of conventional cooling for the 1 rackspace dual tube pres housed inside.
it is completely wrapped in MU-Metal which just simply doesn't get hot!
in fact if you need to cool another piece of gear down just rack the V72s' on top of it!

I don't know of anybody else building units like these, they are extremly musical mic pres that no one should be without.
good luck getting one...they are VERY backed up over there.

Mike what do you use the v72's on? I've been trying to find out more about them. I called yesterday, the wait time is about 3 months and the price is $2500, I guess they went up? Thanks

i got mine from dm ..

http://www.marquetteaudiolabs.com/telefunk.html

he makes great racks and always fills them with quality examples
of whatever modules u have ...

i have got stuff cheaper and quicker from germany in the past but then it hisses and phizzes and leaks and then u gotta pay
to have it revamperd and racked so hey

heh

the trouble i have with telefunkens is that whenever i plug in any other mic amp everything receedes...

Moze, you and Damien are getting stuff from Marquette, are these better or worse than the tab funkenwerks? Tab funkenwerks are not selling through dealers, from what they say and the price for their v72's(pair) are $2500 how does this compare to Marquette? Lastly what do you favor the 72's for vs the 76's? This is new territory for me so thanks for the info,
daniel

*shruggs* get them from dave...

v76's are twice the size more expensive and sound
very different...they have longer hair...
you need both...have dave rack you 1 v76 with one v72
he will moan a bit about how ugly it will be etc but#then you have both innit grggt

the 76 he sent me is from 1963 ! and it looks brand new
...he also does a mod on the 76's that opens up the bottom end..

be carful at his web site you could spend a million $
...i;m trying to.....

i second the GO BUY THINGS FROM HIM

i love that man *sob*
fuuck
i also have a M66 but thats a secret *sssshhhh*evileye

You guys are all mixed up!

Dave M. mods and racks "original" vintage units while Oliver at TAB makes brand spanking new (clones) ones. (Well alright, he also mods and racks 'em but that's not the point...grudge )

Sheeeesh...heh heh heh

We are now returning to our regular programming...

Yeah wut he saidgrggt
So now that we got that straight, has anyone heard Both the
Tab funkenwerks clone and the Marquette v72 box?
Which one did you like better? I am leaning toward the Tab, it has a 5 year warranty and if it sounds as good why not?
It looks like Oliver is making pretty much exact copies, what with all the original tooling stuff he's got but again hows the sound compare? Peace out

The V76m's I had were from a different source. I knew their history and what kind of shape they were in.

Dave changed out the filter caps on a couple of them and racked them up. I have no experience with the newly built versions.

With that said, I am hard pressed to find a mic pre that I like as much. I find they are incredible on vocals and outstanding on a wide variety of other sources. They just sound STOUT. Of course, it's also nice to have some API, Neve and Hardy stuff around as well...

Anyway, my main point was to direct anyone looking for great service and product over to Dave Marquette.

So I can't find this on the Marquette website. Is this something I'll have to speak with Mr. M about?

isn't the v72s(not the normal v72) the modified telefunken preamp that they had at abby road during the 60s before they had the TG consoles?
