I need M7 capsule ASAP !!!

Hey guys,

I am starting a DIY U47 Project and I need a M7 capsule for it.
I know couple websites that make clones of M7, but I would prefer not to have a clone.

Any ideas where can I get it from ?

Thanks in advance.

Gefell doesn't sell capsules only complete mics. If you need a capsule repair you must send your mic to them.

M71 or UM70 capsule head's have legit Gefell M7's in them. And then dissect it. A shame, but you gotta do what you gotta do.....

ADKs GK47 and GK49 are well worth the coin if you are looking for a K47 or a smokier K47. These capsules have performed exceptionally in the tube microphones we build. At one point and time we had the GK47 and a new Neumann K47 in two otherwise identical microphones. The differences between the two were negligible, however one capsule cost under $500 and one capsule cost under $800.

The GK47 offers a sound that is closer to the lush German M7s that people seem to dig so much

The GK49 is better in these tube circuits when you want the sound to be a bit more mellow on top aka a bit more vintage.

Choose your vintage cool

Peace

A "true" M7 has the glued edge; no screws.

In no particular order: Thiersch, Gefell, Dale, Beesneez.

As has been said, Microtech Gefell are the only manufacturers of genuine M7 capsules (as they are the original Neumann factory) and they do not sell these separately to anyone at all (except, perhaps, to Neumann Berlin to repair classic mics.).

Any other "M7" would be a "clone".

The *only* way to get a genuine M7 capsule, as has been said, is to buy a Gefell mic. that has an M7 capsule and strip it. That mic. would then be unusable as Gefell would not install a new capsule without the old one being returned.

So - an expensive process.

Ripping the capsule from a high quality microphone for a DIY job, is not a good recommendation in my book. But hey, roads can fork, and people should turn in whatever direction they want.

A true M7 is Glued, not screwed, and PVC, not (durable) Mylar.

If these elements are important, then I'd say go with the Thiersch.

If the minutiae are less a factor, and the tone is the focus, there are other options.

Well, I think Neumann (Berlin) switched to Mylar even before the K47 was introduced.
I wasn't there, mind.

Anyway, both Gefell and Thiersch do PVC M7s (but only the latter can be ordered separately).
There'll be a new source for PVC M7s, hopefully soon.
Not talking about Dale or Beesneez now (although Ben o.a. could probably do it if he wanted and perhaps he has).
This one will be Austrian made.
Nope, not AKG.
