CK12 Cap reconditioning/repair - sources please

Hi folks,

Two of my mics are AKG 414 EBs, the early ones with the black switches with the brass CK12 capsules.

One of them is in need of repair/reconditioning -- does anyone know of a good shop with reasonable rates for this kind of work?

Thanks a bunch!

It's funny you should be from the UK, one of my 414's was from there too : )

Word of warning, SPAudio takes a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

They are fantastic, just be warned.

If ytou need something faster, use

www.micshop.com
or
www.drefahlaudio.com

or www.vintageloop.com

I have worked with all 3 and they are all great. !

T. Ray, maybe apples and oranges here but...SPAudio serviced a pair of KM84 for me recently (cleaned them up and did a minor repair) and did an excellent job and the mics were returned within about 3-4 weeks (I'm 3,500 miles away from them). Again, he's needing different work than that but in my experience it was fine and Tony was great to deal with.

Nico, call Tony @ SPAudio and ask how long it will be?

Depends on what mics are getting fixed. But yes as Teddy said, be prepared.

I left a message at SPAudio, waiting to hear back.

micshop quoted me a 24 hour turnaround and a $650 price.

Left messages at the other two places.

Peter at www.drefahlaudio.com had a very reasonable price, and since I'm going to Europe in July, I think I will go with his shop.

Thanks so much for the help folks -- much appreciated!

Cheers,

-nico
