Vintage Maintenance-LA-2A and 1176 question.

Ive owned an original LA-2A (babcock-1966) and 1176ln rev F for a few years. I purchased them used and was wondering what type of maintenance older gear needs.
If this is a grom question and is too newbie for you true engineers- feel free to move the thread!

If I am happy with the sound, but can definitely see some aging, should I have them serviced? How often? Any other electronics issues to watch for?

Im in LA so any tech reccommendations would be great! Plus what kind of prices do yall charge? Im tentative because they came from a reputable studio and sound wonderful to my ears and dont want that to CHANGE!!! They are the ONLY 2 vintage pieces I have but they sound so good I had to get them- regardless of my lack of ability to maintain them!

Standard issues- noisy pots on the LA 2A. Make up gain pot is fussy. Meter issues on the 1176- zero point not consistent. But they sound great.

Thanks! I wanted to ask the ELECTRICAL engineers what they do to keep things in top operating condition! Id love to keep these running for ever......

Thanks! Their site looks great and they have actual PRICES! Plus they are in Burbank!!!! I really appreciate it. Your obvious recommendation is to TALK TO A GOOD TECH!

I just started music full time this year, and with serious gear purchases and building my own studio, have come to understand why they call it "engineer'.... They should put the word "electrical" back in- it might clear things up a bit(though most would lose their title-including me!).

Computers no problem but electrical......yikes! I had a friend who learned about capacitors the hard way!

Well the LA2A and the 1176LN are with David as we speak! Seems like a great guy! Clean shop and definitely knows what hes talking about- I cant wait!

Thanks again yeloocproducer! I told him you directed me but he doesn't recognize your gearslutz tag name.

Ill post one last time when the gear is back and let everyone know the results!

Im picking them up TONIGHT! I had them replace the t4b, and fix some other minor issues, fix the metering, and add a grounded plug to the LA2A. The 1176, it turned out, had the input transformer REMOVED and operated unbalanced only. Plus the output transformer was replaced with a Jensen-SO Im putting a jensen input transformer in! CANT wait to hear it! Thank God I got a good deal on the gear or I would be PISSED at all the repairs. Now Im just annoyed... but I figure that will all go away once I have them back and they are working as close to 100% as they can!
Thanks to David for all his help.

They are back and freaking incredible. They sound SOOOOOOOOO CLEAN (relatively of course). David was 100% solid! Thanks to everyone at Studio Electronics. Some of the best money I've spent in years! The LA2A is butter.....
