There are two Fairlight SX-48 recordings. One as the clock master and the other as the clock slave to a DAD AX-32.

There are also two Trinnov D-Mon AD/DA recordings. One as master and one as slave to the AX-32. These are sans any processing and just treat the D-Mon as an AD/DA converter using the AES I/O. It seems like the calibration level of the AD stage and DA stage isn't identical in the D-Mon. It drops the audio level quite a bit.

I might try and give my Sound Devices 788 a spin over the weekend too.

Is it
1) SX-48 DAC ---> AX-32 ADC with AX-32 clocking
or
2) SX-48 DAC ---> SX-48 ADC with AX-32 clocking ?

I would expect rather 2) but then what is the role of AX-32 in Fairlight SX-48 Slaved to DAD AX-32.wav?

Yeah, it is #2 . I should have clarified - my AX-32 is digital only. It is the audio interface for my PT system. It has every digital I/O under the sun installed in it, but no AD/DA cards.

My Fairlight rig is long gone due to the Blackmagic buy out. The SX-48 is basically just an old converter between DAC/ADC/AES & MADI that I use to connect a bunch of hardware synths and a TC Reverb 6000. It is almost 20 years old!

All that changes between the two recordings is the device acting as the master clock.

Hence for Fairlight SX-48 Master to DAD AX-32.wav the AX-32 does not matter, only acting as a digital inteface to PT:
