I have both units and there is no question to my ears that the Lynx Aurora outperforms the ADA8000. The ADA8000 is great for a tight budget but does not have the depth or punch of the Lynx Aurora. Different ballgames.

I don't think converters should have punch or depth. Perhaps audiophile converters, because they are for entertainment not critical listening. Converters are a bit over in the snake oil realm because the highest rated ones are cheap. I get free samples of high end converters sent to me all the time to try out in test boards. The build of the analog components, the power supply, and the reliability factor is what makes the cheaper converters unprofessional.

Cheap knobs and switches tend to fail over time, so do cheap usb and XLR cables.

Behringer beat Lynx in this example because it was a blind test. Coat hangers have beaten $1,000 audio cables in blind tests before. I know that my $60 cables have been more reliable than my $10 cables over time. I will have to wait see how these Monoprice cables fare against my 16 year old Hosa cables that are still going strong.

This is a fantastic test. The original material is so lacking in fidelity that nothing can help it.

The answer is that the recordings sound like the original recordings, because that process was far more subtractive than even a terrible Behringer converter.

The aurora still sounds better, however. They sound a lot alike in mono for what its worth lmao. Perhaps if you're listening back on a system with significant crosstalk then you'll have a hard time distinguishing the difference.

It is funny how, before the results appeared, there was a clear tendency to A sounding better than B, and after that, some guys said that after listening to it once again with some more attention, they suddenly changed their minds. Some guys over here have been dropping like flies and they find it hard to admit because of their ego. The older I get, the more I clearly see the huge placebo that exists in the audio market.

In another test, the null depth values on an acoustic orchestral music sample are about 27 dB for the Behringer ADA8000 (clocked by RME Fireface UFX) and 38 dB for the Lynx Aurora. With the same method for accurate time and left and right gains alignment, the null depth values for the samples of this thread are:

1) The ones who preferred A or picked it mistakenly as being the Aurora from the initial mp3 samples have the excuse that, unlike the following wav samples, the A sample is closer to the original than the B sample.
2) The results from the two most acoustic samples here (Beck and Live) are the most consistent ones with the result from the acoustic orchestral music sample.
