Question advice on covering letter / cv / jobs

I need some advice on what to include in a cover letter that I’m intending to accompany my cv when sending it to studios looking for a job.

I’ve just finished a 2-year college course and am hoping to get some form of (probably badly paid) work as an assistant, tape op or whatever.

My intention so far is to simply send my cv with a covering letter / e-mail to all the studios in my locality, follow this up a week later with a phone call and try to get an interview of some kind.

Do you think this is worth a shot?

Do you know anyone in Dublin, Ireland who might give me a shot?

Any advice graciously appreciated,
