a very nice philosophical animation movie contemplating the dream and wake state.
I've just seen it recently and was very impressed

Thank you, I just watched 'Waking Life'.

I have never seen a movie that is such a parody of itself, and I LOVED it. What a fantastic movie, and escape from reality.
I am not much of a reader and don't recall the last time a read a novel, but this is truly the movie form. Highly recommended. thumbsup

They say that dreams are only real as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?

The idea is to remain in a constant state of departure while always arriving. It saves on introductions and goodbyes heh

The first time I saw it I zapped into it late at night on TV and really got sucked into it but couldn't get rid of the sensation of what the **** am I watching? what is this?
It was a very fresh form, so I few week laters I got it and watched it as a whole, and jee liked it.

I also found the movie Tape directed by him pretty allright, three person cast :p
And School of Rock is pretty funny as well come to think of it, three completely different movies, style, direction, target, content.

Watched "No Country For Old Men" last night, pretty good. I like Coen brothers films, they tend to stay out of mainstream blockbuster type stories and give you the underbelly of Americana

It was actually the first Lynch movie I saw, and I bloody loved it. Inland Empire on the other hand, I admire people who can watch that and know WTF is going on.

Gomorra (2008)

All a bout modern "families" and recruiting, garbage contracts and murder.
I admit the first 10 minutes might make you think its a cheap violent film but its so full of complex concepts.

Shot In Rome I think, its worth watching twice, especially if you thought the godfather was good and like complex crime epics.

Saw this last year it's like "City of God" but Italian style, good movie. If you like gangster films I highly recommend "Un Prophete" one of the best gangster films I've seen in a while even got nominated for the Oscar this year.

The winner this year for Oscars best foreign language film is "El Secreto De Sus Ojos" I just saw it the other day and it is truly magnificent as good as any of the best detective films ever made. The ending of this film is so unexpected that it makes perfect sense.

Last night I finally watched 'Hangover' after my friend had begged me to see it. Worst movie ever! I made it about half way through, not a single laugh.

But then I watched 'Whatever Works'. New Woody Allen movie staring Larry David. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Seriously funny movie, don't listen to the critics reviews. They're idiots!

'Rabbit Proof Fence'.

Wow what a powerful and sad movie about the Aborigine program in Australia. How cruel men in power can be. Another sad chapter.

And superb music by Peter Gabriel. 5 star movie!

Just saw Crazy Heart last night. What a great movie.

It's a real grower though. Halfway through I was thinking "Is this any good?" but after I just kept coming back to it. Mind you, I'm still a touring musician, a drifter if you will, and minus the alcohol abuse I could see a little of what my life might be like in 20 years.

They certainly nailed a few elements of that life very well.

Thumbs up

'The Burning Plain' with Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger.

At first I thought it kind of sucked, but it really builds into an outstanding story. And the acting is quite good and intense. The way it is written with interweaving stories and disjointed time lines at first seems a bit annoying but turns out to be pure genius. Don't expect laughs and smiles, this is a dark story, but a real story that won't leave you quickly.

Funnily i never thought i could like a Bollywood movie - BUT (!): there is one which takes the p*ss out of all the clichΓ© Bollywood movies and actors who are actually IN THE MOVIE LOL
"Om Shanti Om" - brilliant!
Directed by Farah Khan who was the choreographer for (the here mentioned) "Monsoon Wedding" among other movies, produced by Shah Rukh himself, who proves that he is totally aware of his image and ridicules himself like an indian Woody Allen. I watched it with my daughter (thanks to her for that!) and really laughed my a** off.

Well, apart from that: any Michel Gondry movie, "Eternal Sunshine" is IMHO one of the best movies ever done (as a studied screenwriter I've seen quite a bit...), also "Be Kind, rewind" is pretty hilarious. Directors all my friends hate, but I can't help loving their stuff is Eric Rohmer ("Claire's Knee": OMG! and Alain Resnais ("Smoking / No Smoking": you have to be in the mood to get into it, but then it's a 5 hr. revelation).

Another eye-opener for me was Fatih Akin's "Head On (Gegen die Wand)". Hard and true.

Will Smith's 'Seven Pounds'. It is a bit slow and questionable for a while, but it all comes together in a big way. Pretty dark, and no good lessons really, just life.

Took your advice and watched it the other night, hilarious, I hope Woody Allen would come up with more of these neurotic type characters on his next films, it was like he just substituted himself with Larry David in this film and it worked.

I've only seen a few films this 2010 season but the best movie of the year thus far for me is "How to Train Your Dragon" it's Dreamworks' best effort yet, predictable story line but widely entertaining and touching, I think Pixar's Toy Story 3 will have to be incredibly amazing in order beat this film out for the best animation Oscar.
