Role Models.

At first it looks really stupid, and I really didn't want to go see it... But seriously, its hilarious. Just put it on your list.

Revolutionary Road
Incredible acting performances, nice cinematography, and a great score from Thomas Newman.

Another Tour de force from the makers of "American Beauty". To me, it seems like a companion piece.

If the Academy considers a nominee's "body of work" for that year; then Newman should have won the scoring oscar for "Wall-E" (which he was nominated for), and "Revolutionary Road (which he should have been nominated for).
Instead we got industry politics.

Robocop.

It's on HULU so you can go watch it now.

Aside from the obvious entertainment and story-line of a resurrected cop being mind-wiped and turned into a machine, I realized the film was CHOCK FULL of political statements and commentary on culture. Nearly every scene had something to say... and I realized that a large portion of the film was intended to be tongue firmly planted in cheek- with some overblown cliches that seemed to be just for the hell of it.

It's worth it for the sound design alone-- seems like they just wanted to have fun (I swear they use a tr-808 or 909 tom-tom for Robocop's walking...)

When you are young, most of this goes over your head when it's all about a kick-ass robot-man, but being able to sit back and observe it from a difference perspective is very entertaining.

Incredible 80's movie.

Darren Aronofsky is remaking Robocop. Not sure if that needs to be done, but he is awesome, it will be interesting to see what he does with it.

One of the neat things in this movie is how they describe the future and the culture through the TV newscasts, it's an interesting device, kind of "machina".....

Slumdog Millionaire.

sorry everyone. It's not that good. And I am a HUGE Danny Boyle fan. A much better Danny Boyle movie is Trainspotting, or my favorite movie of 2007, Sunshine.

I think this might just be the "make it up to you" Oscar for Boyle, or hollywood's way of ushering in the Bollywood film to Americans.

if you want to watch a real movie, as opposed to hollywood fluff, watch:

..."FLOW": a documentary about the privitization of water on this planet.

FLOW

...talk about informative and eye-opening!!

Hahaha heh

Just saw The Amateurs.

This movie was really bad. And quite dumb. And yet, I laughed my ass off. Recommended for some good humor.

I haven't seen The Deal, but do remember that Meg Ryan stepped pretty far outside of her Hollywood veneer for 'In the Cut', a Jane Campion film that I remember leaving a pretty strong impression on me. Not sure if that's a recommendation, or if I remember LOVING the movie, but it did intrigue me. Maybe I need to see it again. As an audio-geek aside, I should note that I hear the 5.1 soundtrack (or rather - soundscape) is pretty mesmerizing.

+1 on Being there

-Peter Sellers just makes me smile.
and Being there just gives you this profound & sereen feeling.
Also an all time Sellers. Dr. Strangelove : Or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the bomb.
& The Party.

-Playtime by Jacques Tati

-Requiem for a Dream

-Spirited Away : Animation

None of these are action jackson kind of films.

I think Netflix is perfect for watching those great cable series like:

The Wire
Rome
Dexter
Deadwood
Sopranos

All of the above are brilliant in their way and best watched as sets on DVDs.

I love Dexter, but every season is a great journey with no destination. Season 3 was the best ending IMHO.

Naw. Never saw it. Hunter S. Thompson? Not a chance I'd waste any time with that nut job.

An what's the other lame ass Las Vegas movie? Nick Cage was in it. Leaving Las Vegas. Couldn't stand it. The only thing I ever liked Cage in was Raising Arizona.

Flame away.

But it's just not bad scripts. He can't act, beyond a very limited, unreal, moody, method acting crap. For me it worked in Raising Arizona because it was just a quirky, bizarre movie. His bizarreness worked. Maybe Moonstruck.
