I saw Raging Bull again last night. Great acting between Deniro and Pesci. Fights scenes were cartoony. Still a great movie but didn't hold up in the same way for me. I still am surprised Scorcese didn't get best picture for this rather than what he did get it for.

La Motta. What an asshole.

'Sicko'.

I don't really like Michael Moore but he does make a good movie. Anybody arguing against universal health care should be required to watch this.

Just saw 'The Cove'. Yes, well done! And yes it will make you sick. What is it with the Japanese, anyway?

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days

Fantastic film with subtitles, very powerful, well acted reality based movie that really sticks with you. I really felt the characters, and life inside late WW2 Germany. Too much info in the reviews, just watch this movie!

Just saw The Seventh Seal. It was very good but definitely overrated. Not Bergman's best by a long shot.

Haha, Koyaanisqatsi & the whole qatsi trilogy, Amazing,

I recently saw this film 4 times, as I discovered that none of the 20 something-ish people in town have seen it nor heard of it, so I show them and I gladly sit through it every time, last time I saw it before that must have been 10 years ago.
and it's a hit, I even got thanked by a few as it has an impact.
I used to think the music was a bit much (more of a Reich than a Glass fan) but I've grown to love it the last weeks.

Why is it movies about crazy people are always so funny? This movie is hysterical! I haven't laughed so much in a while. Ridiculous, yes, and I didn't care. thumbsup

The Stoning of Soraya M.

This is one of the most powerful, disturbing, and heart wrenching movies I have ever seen. It won't soon leave you. It is one thing to see how deranged and cruel individuals can be, but I am always astonished when people can gather in large groups and perpetuate such behavior. Sometimes I just feel embarrassed to belong to this group that we call human beings.

While I'm on GS on I saw this thread and thought I would paste in an email I sent to my movie enthusiast friend the other night.

It's a dutch film called 'Simon'...

The other night I was flicking through channels, for some reason I stopped on SBS and a movie was on, I didnt see the opening credits but it felt like it just started. It all played out so well at the start that I couldnt turn it off - I thihnk that was a lot to do with one of the lead characters who was just really fun to watch. There's basically 2 lead characters, the fun guy and another guy who was the main lead. Anyway the real theme of the movie was eventually revealed but it was so cool to not know what the theme was going to be about until it was revealed. And they had me from the first 10 mins anyway so the fact that I found the theme interesting enough sealed the deal. The acting was perfect and not just the main 2 guys - even their families, you felt like you were just in the room with them. And yeah the film makers just got so much right. I could say more but just consider it a recommendation.

ALso one of my other favourite films ever was 'Bully'. I found that pretty powerful and real. It was made by the same guy that made 'Kids' I think.

A film by Brass Eye mastermind Chris Morris about some incompetent suicide bombers. Manages to be funny and thought provoking at the same time. I think the way it takes the idea of the suicide bomber as someone to be feared and revered, and shows them up as incompetent idiots is brilliant.

There's a 3rd one but I doubt it'll be much of a departure from the original.......
