RIP Roger Hawkins, Drummer, Muscle Shoals

Session drummer Roger Hawkins died on May 20th due to complications from chronic pulmonary disease.

He was the drummer for the Swampers, the house backing band at Fame Studios, and then as part owner and session drummer of Muscle Shoals Sound Studios.

His drumming can be heard on many hits by diverse artists such as
Percy Sledge, Wilson Picket, Aretha Franklin, The Staple Singers, Paul Simon, Bob Seger, Duane Allman (demos) Jimmy Buffett, J. J. Cale, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Etta James, Eddy Rabbit, Rod Stewart, etc...

He was one of the greatest pocket drummers in the history of music. With David Hood they became one of the greatest sections in music.
