Ms-20 mini. I basically only know how to do one lead sound and then one modulating sound based off of that.

I don't understand the patchbay at all.

I got it in this March and it was my introduction to synthesis.

Here's a recipe for happy drum track accidents: use an arpeggiator or a pitch shifting MIDI delay on the drums.

KARMA ("arpeggiator on steroids") on my Kronos. I have just enough control over it to do some simple things, but it's always one slider or button away from very unpredictable (to me) results. Often those results are too whacked out to be musically useful. But when it works, it's truly incredible.

Hope to post some demos soon of KARMA driving my SEM and SH-2.

cool thread!

+1 for elektron (machinedrum and monomachine in my case) AND the ebbe und flut filter, with lots of modulation applied, it almost doesn't matter what the sound source is..

That would be an unhappy accident, I suppose.

The Virus is a great source of wow moments too.

Clavia Nord Lead 4

The more I program it, the more I discover how versatile it is, and lots of happy accidents along the way

Cheers,

Very inspiring synths.
The Nord Wave is very versatile and still simple and easy to use. I got many happy accidents with it.

I think there were a couple for Yamaha FM synths, Tempest and modulars.

Yeah I think you should add the two Tempest votes to the DSI pool, although I can't say my Tempest has ever surprised me. I think that's because of the LFO retriggering, though.

It's probably because of the fact that basic subtractive are old hat for a lot of people, and there's really not many surprises left without going modular and experimenting with signal chains. Sampling and fm, however are full of possibilities, and also typically underutilized (ESP in this day and age)

The Casio VZ-1 is big on the happy accident factor. Next in line the Yamaha TG-33, you never know exactly what the vector control will give you at different recording resolutions. Then I'd have to say the Akai S6000.

The OT is certainly very fun for experimenting. I can see why it's a popular choice. Putting the crossfader on it and the scene implementation was a genius move. Really takes it to the next level when you want to FSU.

Excellent point.

It's amazing what one can do running an external audio source through an MS2000 using it's processing and modulation capabilities in real time, especially the sick delay controls.
