YAMAHA at Muzikmesse 2014... What can we expect ?

Hi,

YAMAHA is launching a special Muzikmesse 2014 website :

Musikmesse 2014 – Special Site - Musical Instruments - Yamaha - Other European Countries

So... What can we expect from YAMAHA this time around ? Anything exciting ?

Your guesses, thoughts, expectations ...etc.

Cheers,
Muziksculp

What can we expect?

Bugger all.

(Seriously, I really really would love for them to delve into their "back catalogue" of tech and bring out a sequencing FM synth / drumbox / SOMETHING!)

I think that since their 125th anniversary passed without any significant announcements says it all.

Lots of killer gear for avant garde electronic musicians, no doubt. From drool worthy analog monos that will put MacBeth synths to shame to innovative, user friendly real time beat manglers, monster wavetable synths with real analog filters and other kit that will leave you speechless, if there's one thing we can know for certain it's that Yamaha will bring it all. It'll be absolutely insane.

I think Yamaha will suprise us with a new Synth in the DX family. And it will finally use the sought after Motif XF Engine.

CS14 MonoSynth? Would we buy that or are they too late? Say it's similar in price / features to the MS20 mini and CS15.

I'd be all over a CS-80 reissue, VA or whatever.

I wish they would release an updated EX5 (both keyboard and rack version) with SD card slot rather than floppy drive, 1GB Flash RAM for sampling and a much more powerful processor giving 10 voice AN polyphony, 2 voice VL polyphony, 128 voice AWM2 polyphony and added 6op FM synth engine and patch compatibility with DX7 SY77 SY99 AN1x and VL1 patches (in addition to original EX5 patches).

What do I expect they will release? Another frigging boring Motif with minor updates...

+1. And I think they actually will do it - now, or at summer NAMM.

A knobby saxophone with analogue filters and internal effects DIY kit. Alternatively, a marimba in a similar package. No soldering and only minimal welding required. A definite buy, even if only for the PCI connectivity and total Windows Media Player integration...

Come on Yamaha, there's no point keeping it secret now.

We are 20 years past the VL1. They could make it 64-note polyphonic if they used the old algos on newer DSPs.

That's something that I'd find really interesting indeed, especially if they include the VP1 algos too.

That would hopefully be a fantastic synth!

They had a display up at the Messe.
It had a CS80 behind glass.
Says enough I guess.

Maybe they will sell off their synthesizer dept to Korg? (That would be a hoot!)

Hopefully they'll make something interesting, it seems that some of the companies are starting to see the demand for quality analog and old school gear. Maybe they'll surprise with something of that sort, although i doubt that. They usually make utter crap and then once every few years make a quality product.

So basically, they've painted a speaker white, mentioned their MG mixers *again* - and ... ? then ... ? *crickets*

I don't get it.

They put up a special site for Muzikmesse, for all new products, and all I see is the same old products

Not even a synth section...
Even their workstations are in "Music Production" section...
Pretty boring indeed... such a shame... :(

Wow... 10th Anniversary of the Motif. Way to not advance, Yammy.

But wait, Kurzweil has a new piano... argh... Roland looks exciting again.

Thats the whole problem with Yamaha. They are run by bean counters that get anxious when they have to choose between black and white monitor speakers.
