Moog Matador

Get speculating! Synthtopia picked up on Moog's patent for a new synth called 'Matador'....

Sounds like a lot of bull...

'Matador' sounds like controller for Minitaur or Minitaur engine with bass pedals

Nice find.

I'm thinking Slim Phatty replacement at $699-$799.

Combining some of the Sub 37's features (various distortion stages, perhaps 2 note paraphonic, arp) with the Minitaur's simplicity, and Slim Phatty's form factor.

Given that description:

MATADOR - Reviews & Brand Information - Moog Music, Inc. Asheville, NC - Serial Number: 86184008

I'd probably say either a filterbank or less likely a vocoder.

that description is used by moog for every trademark description theyve made. they used the same one for the sub37 and minitaur...so all is good..as you were!

Well we all know a another rack synth is coming - with the already low cost (in my books) of the sub37 it's probably going to be the rack synth based on the sub architecture but what they put in pull out is anyone's guess.

In that case, and given the relationship between the names "Taurus" and "Matador", I am expecting a new bass-pedal synthesizer.

"Sound frequency filters for controlling audio parameters by raising or lowering the gain of specific audio frequencies using a resonant filter"

Sounds more like a fixed filter bank of BPF's! :-D
Like the 907a..?

Guys, Taurus MkIII is only a few years old. No way they are going there already. The rack version of anything that already exists doesn't explain the name.

Minitaur with keys?

Poly Moog?

I'd think that it must be related to the Taurus. Since a matador tries to control the bull, then a sequencer makes sense.

Yes. How many more types of mono instruments can they make? They (Voyager, Minitaur, Taurus, Little Phatty, Slim Phatty, Sub Phatty) are already competing against one another. The Sub37 on the way is a step in the right direction.

The filter bank guess is probably right. But there's nothing I'd rather see them do than an update of the Voyager that absolutely nails the sound.

As was already mentioned above, Moog has been using that "sound frequency filters" description for all of its recent trademarks, including the Sub 37, Sub Phatty, Little Phatty, Minitaur, and SP Tribute (whatever that is). There's really no reason to assume this will be a filter bank.

It better have PWM, full midi implementation, full analog signal, polyphonic and be free.

That's all we're asking for, right?

My vote:

Classic Moog tone (of course).

Features and layout of Jupiter 8. Plus: Velocity, AT, Midi, self osc filters, USB.

Several CV patch points.

AND! Some kind of USB audio interface deal that lets you run 8 channels of audio through the 8 filters with DAW automation. Perhaps integration with an Animoog style virtual synth to give it real filters.

$3,999
