My great aunt was a long-time classical piano teacher in my home town. My grandmother insisted that I take lessons. So I started taking at age 5 and took until age 15, and besides spirituality, music is the most important thing in my life.

I don't care about "making it big" or being rich, the thing that matters to me is making the best possible music in my own "voice" and style as I can. Music that sounds like nothing else, that can be identified as me as readily as if I did sing. If I get rich, that's fine, but it's making the best possible music, to my standards. That's what drives my creativity. I happen to be very into electronic and hip hop and that's what I compose, instrumental. I also write relaxation music and have a small company that sells CD's and DVD's on the internet, an the music is clinically tested to help the listener relax.

Music is life, life is music. I've also found that the more you love music, the more music you love. I've changed in the last few years and am nevery snobby about music, or throw off on any kind of music. Every type of music has some legitimacy to it, no matter what. The enlightened musician sees that musical value in everything, just as the spiritual person sees value in every person. God made music, my music is all dedicated to God.

I'd like to say something about this site. I have never been on a site as cliquish as this one. People only answer their buddies. I've gotten almost zero answers to any questions I've asked, and I've been coming here for like two years. It's not a friendly atmosphere at all. Lots and lots of knowledge, but who wants to be a part of a website where no one actually acts like they care??? I'm on a Ferrari car site with a bunch of really educated, wealthy guys, people you would think would be that way, but they're not. This site is 1,000 times worse in terms of snoody remarks, or just ignoring people. Just thought I'd share that and I don't care if anyone likes it or not. Of all the forums I've ever been on for any amount of time, this is by far the worst, no comparison at all.

It was MJ's Thriller but mostly Jan Hammer's 12" of Miami Vice that my older sister had in our record collection. That was in the mid 80s.
Then in 1994 I went to my first psy-trance party, had my first drop and my whole life changed, forever.

My parents bought me an SK5 for my 10th birthday. Made a lot of crank calls with that sampler.

Then when I was about 12 or 13 I played Journey's Separate Ways on my new Yamaha PSR500 at my annual piano recital. It was a first for my teacher and rather edgy given the context. Afterward someone's dad told me that I rocked and made sitting through the rest of it worthwhile for him.

I was a DJ for 10 years starting in '95. Got tired of mixing other people's music. Sold all my stuff and bought my 1st synth in 2006.

Been making my own stuff ever since. Been through a lot of gear (buying/selling) over the years.

Probably The Six Wives of Henry VIII and then seeing Wakeman on the Journey to the Center of the Earth tour in '74. ELP sealed the deal. A shame I couldn't afford the gear at that time.

Watching "In Search Of..." on TV and wearing out my Betamax copy of "Escape from New York" pretty much sealed the deal for me. Had to know what made all of those cool sounds. Had to have one.

This pretty much did it for me as far as synths go. As I own a
decent amount of vintage synths, I wont be able to afford the synth
that was used in this song any time soon. It's fun trying to nail the sound
with what I have though.

My mother doing dance classes for young women at a church hall in rural Scotland in the 70's and she used to take me to watch when I was a wee thing - her mix tape for these sessions was awesome: I particularly remember 'I Feel Love' and 'Popcorn'... after that I was a synth addict. When we moved to England, it was the 80's - Depeche Mode and the rest <GRIN!>

I came to electronic music through punk.

Big Black - Songs About ****ing
Suicide - Suicide
Kraftwerk - Man Machine

Those albums led me buy my first drum machine. Devo's Whip It video made me buy an SH-101 so I could have a red keytar

What one song got you into electronic music??

Im sure most of us have it?..

For me its not even a traditional 'electronic' track. When I was a lot younger I was riding in my Dads work van (having bunked off school) and he had 'Stop Making Sense' by Talking Heads on. There is a bit in 'Once In a Lifetime' where there is a sudden, powerful chord sequence introduced, like nothing I had ever heard (I was maybe 6 or 7) I asked my Dad "whats making that sound?" and he said, "oh i dont know, its probably a synthesiser?" "a what?" "its like a keyboard but you can make any sound you want"

And that was it, I was fascinated and hooked instantly..

what really cemented it for me was hearing I Care Because You Do by Aphex Twin when I was maybe 15..thats when it became a real obsession.

In terms of dance music, I have to say when I first heard the sound of Easy-Lee by Ricardo Villalobos I suddenly 'understood' 4/4 dance music.

the first song that catched my interest for electronic music was "das boot" by u96. i started "producing" after hearing "no limits" by 2unlimited. and a live-version (called "live experience") of "halcyon" by orbital brought my to more "advanced" electronic music.
