for me it was 3 songs, all from the 70s when I was a kid.

Mezmorised by:

JMJ - 'Oxygene' (I often sat on the beach listening to waves crashing in)

Space - 'Magic Fly'

The Neutrons - 'No More Straights' (from 'Tales from the blue Cocoons')

[YOUTUBE]?? hard to say, had 2 kraftwerk albums with 13. what was propably kinda excentric since the other boys in school was more into ac/dc and alike..

4 years later i was more into undergrround stuff.. kraftwerk was strange but i recepted them allways as a kind of commercial band since they was played in the german radio while other stuff was only played by john peel.

but even when its hard to get..

that brought me closer to touch synths myself than the other stuff..since i nevver have seen it specially important to have it all synthesysed..and the prvious examples are all very much in a sstandard popformat.. when i came along that weard stockhausen stuff i started own experiments.. since it would have been anyway unrealistic to get all the expensive synths and drum maschienes.. but doing music with a single sine oscilator a tape maschien and a drumset was quite interesting and kept me engaged for a while...

Well I'm in my 30's, so there are several IDM/Synthpop songs that got me into making electronic music, but my love for the synthesizer sound started early on, with my dad's Chick Corea, Alan Parson's Project, and Genesis records.

This one is kind embarrasing.... But I admit it still gives me chills!

Probably my very first exposure to electronic music. Loved the arp here before I knew what synths were.

Popcorn - Gershon Kingsley, 1969

Very tranced out... The Hot Butter version from 1972 made me want to leap around even more!

Me too. But where I'm from late 80s early 90s rave was very common.... I didn't take to it but it was always about.....the shamen/prodigy etc were what kids listened to and you couldn't escape it. Then britpop came along and it died a death.

"Autobahn" and a little later "Moskow Diskow" (or "Eurovision", don't really remember – from today's point of view, I hope it was "Moskow Diskow" )

No way I could pick one or even a genre..

But these two are good enough examples, still sound good now, still get a good reaction now too...

That Dave Angel one, idk, it's hard to believe that was made in 1990.

What got me into electronic music was listening to old-school tracker music back in the BBS days. Things like MODs, S3Ms, etc.

If I had to pick a couple standouts it would be Space Debris by Captain and the soundtrack to the Future Crew demo Second Reality (by Purple Motion):

I believe that what really made me start enjoying EDM in the 1st place was my long hours of NES playing during my childhood!!

Those catchy riffs - mainly from Konami games - really evoked my taste in electronic music.

I believe that's why I always found it so attractive.

Like so many others, this is was a pivotal moment in my early teens.
My friend's parents had the record, we threw on the player and I was entranced by it's eerie beauty.
I'd heard 'synths' in music before, but never quite like this.

Then slowly, started listening to more underground radio programs at night, featuring so many of the usual (and not so usual) suspects, but with a twist.

OMD
Human League
David Bowie
Classix Nouveaux
Suicide
Tangerine Dream
Klaus Schulze
Ultravox
Tubeway Army
Malcolm McLaren
Alphaville

And so many more...

These 2 particular tracks were also pivotal moments.
I was hooked upon first hearing them, odd and quirky, yet so cool at the same time.
Of course, prior to a hit song made that sadly pinned them down as a one-hit wonder, while an early catalog of great material exists and remains unknown to most.
Lots of bands from the 80's suffered a similar fate, but that's what was great about that radio show.

As a teenager in Montreal at the time, sunday's program "New Music Foundation" on CHOM 97.7 FM with Benoit Dufresne.
I heard so many great tracks, even from bands that had mainstream success, but he would often play some B-sides, early releases and more obscure rarities, I loved it.

So, that's pretty much when synths started playing a huge role in my musical journey, one that - fortunately - is far from over!

I've been into electronic music for as long as I can remember - I guess the largest influence came from playing C64/NES/SNES video games.

What got me into electronic music production was the Amiga ProTracker demoscene, and being able to tinker with other people's music until I felt comfortable enough to make my own. 3-4 years later, I got my first rompler and started making music "the proper way" by using my own instruments, not just samples I'd ripped from someone else's MOD file.
