iPhone 4S irig

Hi,

Instead of buying an 808 for 2000 pounds I've bought the irig midi interface for iPhone along with downloading sampletank. My plan is to trigger the sounds externally via my mpc2500. Does anyone have any experience with iPhone/iPad 808 emulators? I've heard funkbox is nice sounding. But can I sequence it via midi? I know it supports midi sync but I'd rather not do that.

Thanks

Why not just load 808 samples into your MPC?

Good question. I have tried this. Everything usually sounds Ok. But I can never get the Kick drum right.

Also the iPhone will give me added effects. Especially reverb for that kick

mmmmm....I'd think you'd be better off with high quality 808 samples than an iphone emulator...

Possibly. Maybe I can add effects at source of the mpc2500. I usually just add effects at the mixer. Does the mpc need an added effect board?

Is this for studio or live applications?

Just studio at the moment. I think I'll try both methods and see which is easiest, most reliable etc

Someone has posted a huge bank of 808 samples for free here! grab those and load them up. Your Mpc2500 surely has effects built in?! my 1000 has.

Sequencing internally loaded samples on the mpc will almost certainly be tighter than triggering samples externally.

I certainly wouldn't use my iPhone for something as fundamental and important as your main kick. Besides the timing issues mentioned you also have the higher/SN ratio of the mini-jack, probably considerably less 'flat' response & slew rate of the DA's and so on.

Have you considered using an Android for funky robotic bass lines? Could work.
