DMD-Free (Driven Machine Drums) 66 new drum-samples!

Check them out here.

Tonebuilder | Facebook

DMD-Free, 66 brand-new drum samples.

Available in:
24-bit Wav
24-bit Aif
16-bit Wav
24-bit EXS-24
24-bit Kontakt

The 24-bit Wav or Aif work in a variety of host sampler software, including
Geist/Guru, Maschine, Ableton, MPC Renaissance/Studio, and hardware
like the Elektron Octatrack. Just download and create your own kits.

The 16-bit versions are intended to be used with older hardware samplers
and are dithered from 24-bit.

Wide variety of hardware was used to create this free collection, but there's
no hard sell... it's DMD-FREE.

Glad you guys dig em. Make sure to play with the Hold/Decay relationships.
Lots of range available per sample using envelopes.

Here's an audio example showcasing the possibility
of organic envelope automation due to the nature
of DMD-Free and DMDSB's sound design philosophy.

There's one kick, one snare, 2 hats, and 3 toms from
DMD-Free used in this example. No round-robin,
just straight envelope automation (hold and decay).

I used Kontakt as the sampler and envelopes combined
with Sugar Bytes Thesys as the sequencer. Thesys
is nice for this particular task because you can set
independent sequence lengths for note, gate, and midi-cc.
The midi-cc is assigned to Kontakt's hold and decay in
a scaled inverse relation.

It's still a four-on-the-floor loop, but if you listen carefully,
there's a more organic/analog quality to each hit. It's
not machine gun.

HOWEVER, if you want that robotic/tight feel like vintage
samplers, it's available to you. You aren't forced into
round-robin layers.

Also, you can use the envelopes instead of compressors
and gates. I did some automation on the kick to showcase
this, listen to how it pumps up around the 17 measure point.
No compressor. Just extended the hold.

DMD-Free and DMDSB samples have extreme hold/decay by
default which in 90% of the case, you should back off a bit.
But, on the plus side, it's more like having an instrument than
a sample library. At least, I hope that is the case.

Make sure to grab the DMD-Free in the original post.

Thanks, good to hear you are enjoying Driven Machine Drums STRIKES BACK!!
Like the first collection, DMDSB will eventually sell out and be removed
from the sales page. There are 164 copies remaining, then like Kyser Soze...
poof.

I'm always working... but nothing official as of yet.

If there is something, you can be assured it won't cover the same
ground as DMDSB because I'm "on to the next one, on to the next one..."

What a load of sales psychology BS!

There's no logical reason you would limit a digital product that can be copied an infinite number of times.

Can't believe in 2013 people still fall for that sort of nonsense.

Not sales psychology BS. I know my motives. You don't.

"No logical reason"? Well, maybe you lack imagination. Or maybe there's
illogical reasons.

Because while you may only imagine I'm using "sales psychology bs",
you just proved you like to fly off the handle and falsely accuse people.
Next time just ask what my reasons are.

And in a thread where I'm giving away a week's work. If I was using
"sales bs", I would've made people opt into a mailing-list or "like" my
page to receive the free samples.

Instead, they are just there as a gift.

ALSO...
131 copies left as of today.

Here are the reasons I chose to limit the number of copies.

1. I LIKE things that are "exclusive" or "limited", like 500 copies
of a vinyl record or a certain cover on a comic book. That's my
background... it may be old fashioned, but c'est la vie.

With DMDSB especially, I don't think it's going to be quite possible
to emulate unless a combination of modules/processing/specific
circuit bends/etc is recreated. I'm the type of dude who listens
to the intricacies of a 303 and can spot it vs. something else... the
details matter. So, hopefully some users make some nice music
with DMDSB and in 20 years, when the question is asked "how do
I recreate the drum sound in this awesome track?"...
you can't buy the hardware. It's a mystery. DMDSB is long gone...

DMDSB only exists as a sample library because IF it was hardware, the
drum-brain would cost $20-30k. And it's limited to 966 licenses.
So, that's my illogical romantic reason.

This isn't revisionist history. I did an interview with Guitar Center Pro
Magazine in 2009 with this exact quote:
β€œI want the artists to have something unique.”

2. The website is DIY, keeping costs down. I'm a sound-designer... not
a web designer. I didn't want to have multiple product pages. Nor did
I feel like supporting and marketing a product past a certain number of
sales... so that's my illogical lazy reason.
