Interesting

edit, the reason we have two lots of pics is the Korg site that leaked (possibly by accident) pulled their pics and now this is official added them back. I had already linked some off site copy pics by then...

Here we will discuss King Korg to avoid having two synths in one topic.

In another thread we will discuss new Korg MS-20.

Thanks for splitting the threads. The old one has become unreadable. With too much about the MS20m, not enough about the KingKorg.

IMO the "filter emulations" sound amazing authentic, even on youtube. Has Korg set a new standard for VAs?

Reason: it became a bit messy on the forum with many new MS-20 and King Korg related threads. I've merged them. But moving them in here would produce even more clutter. So idea was to split this one into two directions.

@SonicBern: If you want i can pull material from this thread and move it there. This might take and hour of work.
Hi Don

Please don't make work for yourself....

My initial thread was to post a copy of a leak of the KingKORG that was hitting other forums. I then discovered the MS20-Mini at the same leak site after a bit of digging and added that. These two synths can join with a CV lead so it was fun to keep them in the same thread for a while. It was great seeing some die hard analog heads consider the funky KingKORG, but what you have done is good for the forum now these are out for real

Thank you for keeping this place well organized

So does the MS-20 mini has VCOs or digital stabilized VCOs?

All the sound demos I have heard of the King Korg (worst synth name ever btw) has really sold me. I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

I love the z1, the prophecy, and the kronos, triton, and trinity. and the o1w.

I love korg.

I do agree. As it is, the KK is in the shadow of the MS20m, and doesn't get as much attention as it should. For the money it is an awesome synth. Perfect for live performances, an all-rounder for home studios, and a great starter keyboard. Very universal usable at a great price.

Wow... and this is coming from DF, one of the pickiest members here, but then you do love a few softies and VAs.

Really, while I'm waiting for someone to do a "Tom Sawyer" style filter sweep of both the Moog and Obie filters, this thing as a total package is already pure chewing satisfaction. It replaces the Radias nicely, the OSC features are sweet, the filters sound delectable, decent range of controls and effects, aliasing sounds very low as typical of KORG VAs these days, the tube stage is sweet, the price is nifty...

I think even if you have a polyanalog or two, this thing brings a really good selection of synth flavors to add to it. And as I said in that other thread, pair the KK with Roland's VR-09 for a fantastic and very affordable combo with lots of real time controls for the price of a new Prophet 08. Throw in the digital piano - RD-64? - for a check more and have a full, portable and great sounding keyboard rig with little left out but sampling.

With them, the MS-20 and Prophet 12, this has been a pretty freaky NAMM for us keyboardists. In a good way.

What sells me is the fx, the ease of use to edit anything, good layout, 61 keys, being able to split, and getting good tones for strings, and bass and leads that dont alias up high much, is really great for playing life, i wish i had this for my up coming tour, i hope to have this and the sub phatty for my east coast leg this summer.

Going to really help us on stage.

I like some software, some hardware, some analog, and some digital.

I like digitals like the kronos and all workstations for texture, ambiance and pads. Real analog of bass and leads. VAs for performance on the road with low latency, and some of the software has its own character that is great as well, i love omnisphere, sylenth1, tyrel nexus 6, jup 8 v, moog mod v, waves api bundle, duende, renoise, cubase 5 and 7, and my massive drum lib, and lex verbs and the ksp8.

I like lots of everything these days... I am no this way or that way snob now, i am about making my music the way i like and these are the tools that get me there, does not mean that everything else sucks, this is just my preferences for what i do.

The MS20 does not interest me because I have a minibrute with a true multimode filter. And sub phatty is bright fat city with moog tone.

I do like the sound of the KING KORG and even like the silly name, but at £950 here in UK it seems a lot of cash for a VA, when for twice that I can get the prophet 12, then again I could get a king korg and a sub phatty, for same price as prophet 12! or get a mopho x 4 and subphatty, or get prophet 08 and Korg ms 20, too many choices!!!!

I need my first synth, prophet 08 or 12 may be a bit ambitious? i don't want to do 2nd hand, or 'vintage' had bad experiences, king korg may be a safe bet, but its still quite a lot of dosh. If it was £700, I'll probably bite!

The king korg having all those filters with the slick interface, i'm sold over the prophet 12 or any new virus, or anything roland is putting out. King Korg will go on tour nice, with a good price and if i need to replace one, its not 3000, its 1000, i can live with that.

Excuse me if this is real obvious to the rest of you - but is this synth all analog, or is it digital synthesis running on a circuit board within the machine?

It's nice too that everything is pushed close to the keys. You can put it in the middle or bottom of a multi-tier stand and still be able to get at the controls.

The tubes are analog and used for real effect on sound.

The outputs will be analog after a DAC..

The synth is basically a VA. Korg call the VA type XMT so digital in that sense...

Not clear if they do any (XMT) D2A (tube) A2D (XMT) D2A (output) in the tube routing when selected....

It is a VA (Virtual Analog)...hence all the filter modeling.

But just for clarity....even real analogs run off of circuit boards...

So looking at all the pics....

How is one supposed to change out the tube if it should ever go bad?

Do you have to take off the entire top panel? And I wonder if the tube is socketed?

Fcuk. I might buy this thing.

And i'm 99% sure i'll buy P12. Particularly if they'll include Prophet VS waveforms in their raw format preserving their BITE!

Slightly OT, have you tried the VS? For your style of music, this thing is highly recommended, particularly when bathed in reverb or chorus with delay. None of the online demos show the real power of that synth (which is why i was skeptical before buying it, now i wouldn't sell it for anything. Well unless P12 brings up its ROM content)

The type of music i like is actually the type of music you do.

Hrm... I really didn't hear any stepping per se, but I watched him closely to see how he was manipulating his sounds while jamming, and he wasn't very smooth, though the sound was. When using the iPad, I've had similar experience with the Triton and Kronos on somethings because fingers do tend to confuse touch surfaces sometimes, and they can jump badly. I use a stylus and it still happens on occasion. The filter editing he did was pretty smooth in contrast. I noticed he did his other edits as you should, by sliding vertically or horizontally on a touch surface, while that jumpy OSC tune he did by basically mashing his fingertip around the edge of the knob which is how I still start, and causes the jumpy sound until I realize what I'm doing.

I'm with you on needing an iPad though, bummer. Seems like either Apple is bribing businesses, or M$ is hosing them with Windoze fees, which wouldn't surprise me.

It does have sync (see videos from NAMM, when Rich is playing a P5 soundalike hardsync sound). Not sure on anything else you mention there. Perhaps via 6 "virtual patches"?

Well, then you'll be happy to know that he's going on tour (which it's been ages since the last) in a week or two. Been waiting a long time for this.
