nearly all of the namn videos say that the prophet 12 wasn't finished, it needs to be finished before people can play around and get demo patches.

I expect the prophet 12 demos to be as god awful as the evolver demos. Didn't like em one bit, but loved the evo!:D

I'm expecting this one to be the same...

the INHALT youtube demo sounds pretty rad; i really like the weird FM type sounds, almost reminiscent of Japan's Tin Drum album. it's a synth i'd definitely buy if it weren't 3k. i'd pay half that.

Everybody thinks they're a synth programming genius and "need" 87 types of modulation, but I never heard a demo that got genuinely deep into the Evolver until Jexus. (And to my shame, I owned one).

You dont need all those types of modulation, until you want to modulate X with Y and you cant.

Not everybody finds the Jexus tinkering with open filter so appealing.

On Jexus, he definitely is a synth programming genius, but it seems over the past couple of years that he grew tired of doing the same kinds of sounds over, and went off the deep end into Reznor industrial land.

But on those modulation options, I can tell you as a guy who does a bunch of old school synth sounds for the most part, that I usually bump up against the modulation limit of a synth at some point. I'm ready for a truly deep synth that lets me modulate everything with anything.

This is a good contender to replace my SH-201. If it weren't 2.5k

Do you mean to say you found somewhere where the P12 is sold for 2.5k instead of 2999$ ?

It's 2650€ in most internet stores except DV247.fr has it for 2311€.

Old quote, but does this mean, the digital part runs at 88kHz or higher? Nice!

Other (rather technical) questions:

- Is the FM phase modulation or DC linear FM or AC linear FM ?
(OK first and last option should be similar...)

- Since we have a mod matrix: can we do AM, too?
(should work, just modulate oscillator amplitude)

Curious about modulating wave shape and the character section at audio rate...
This is basically asking for aliasing, but the high sample rate might help.

Having only 11kHz control of the analog part seems a bit low...
This limits filter FM etc. at approx. 5kHz and could even introduce aliasing.
Should still be OK...

Having a bunch of DCOs in this box that are not wired up seems a bit sad, but probably the cost of all the DA converters to drive them and the analog mixing would have been a bit to high. Maybe high sample rate digital oscillators are actually better...

First off, good catch on that first quote. That had slipped right under my nose, but with DSP chips dedicated to running just a few processes, not the whole synth engine, 88kHz internal rate sounds doable.

For the second, I took from that to mean the audio rate modulation was good to 11kHz, but we'll know for sure over the coming weeks. Especially if Pym decides to clarify...?

Ultimately the ADC/DAC run at 44.1kHz 16 bits, internally we do more as needed. The CVs are still influenced by the slew of the analog circuitry when you change them at very fast rates (which naturally cleans up aliasing), so even 11kHz is quite high. The CV is modulated at a higher rate internally just like the other signals, so we clean up issues before it's sent out to the analog portion. Most digitally controlled analog synths use something closer to a 2kHz refresh rate (Our stuff pre-Tempest, Anushri, etc) due to the increase in cost as you go up from there.

Hey Pym,

Any word on ship date? I'm about to drop $ on it at a place where I have to pay in full for preorder. I see Guitar Center is at July 5th as the earliest ship date?

Is this wrong? I'm not sure I want to wrap my money up for 3 months.

I think the INHALT demo sounds quite good through my laptop monitors

The p12 could be the answer to all questions.

He also has the overdrive\distortion knob all the way up most of the time in his demos, which is more than a bit annoying.

I'm going to have to wait until i can hear it in person. If it sounds better than my prophet vs i'll buy it. I'm not that impressed by the demos so far though.

well, they get the kurzweils 6 or 9 months before Italy does.

They are "German periphery" as far as international trade is concerned.
