Is Omnisphere the best for new age, etc.

Looking for something that can provide unique, amazingly gorgeous, rich, soothing textures. Maybe Omni is overkill, since it does so many other things, but, without actually being able to demo one in person, I get the sense that it can handle this genre with ease.

Appreciate any personal experience comments to confirm..thanks

In a word: yes. Omnisphere is fantastic especially for pads, textures, etc.

How is it for instant gratification? I have to say that I'm more inclined to be able to dial up a predesigned patch, rather than spend lots of time programming....been there, done that.......not opposed to a little tweaking..but it would be great to just play.

It's extremely geared towards instant gratification. With the 1.5 upgrade (free), it's got over 5000 patches, all easily sortable and searchable. And the patches are of generally good quality.

Wow is New Age still a thing? ;-)

For Ambient type stuff Omnisphere is amazing - incredible variety of very unique but also very musical and useful sounds. Tons of great presents, but also very easy to make slight tweaks to make the sound more your own quickly.

I practice out of a clinic-spa 3 days a week where I am the "Asian Therapies Specialist." They play the "Spa" station from a satellite/cable channel. I am also an Omni fanboi. Omni is all-over the channel for the more recent songs of the last couple of years (they also do classic Eno, Roach, etc...). A lot of East-West Quantum leap stuff is used as well. Of course it seems that a fair amount is done with just a Roland or Korg ROMpler.

Patients and clients love New Age. Usually they are in a lot of physical pain, have a serious illness along with anxiety/depression/fear and it helps to counterbalance it. Personally, it is too lite for me -- I prefer deeper shamanic and psychedelic stuff for personal healing, but there is no denying that New Age music has helped people -- I see it on a daily basis. Don't be afraid to take Omni into darker waters. That being said it has some Farlight samples that are perfect. . .

OT: From working with the terminally ill for over a decade now -- this album gets the best reception:

If you like working with computers and keyboard controllers it is the most powerful soft synth to date. Rudess uses it almost exclusively on DT albums.

I'll also endorse Omnisphere for its great sounds and instant usability. Tweaking is quite straightforward.

Of all the soft synths I've played and owned, Omnisphere is by far my favorite.

I've made a few Omnisphere demos, such as those below. The whole set can be found here.

An average indie home studio type can sell far more new age CDs than EDM. There is a whole market there that still buys CDs and TONS of mom and pop New Age, Book, and Gift Stores that will sell it outside of the normal "music stores"

Omnisphere has its moments but i think it lends itself more to deeper experimental music or ambience than new age.

For new age you want more clean digital sounds like

Korg legacy digital ( m1 and wavestation are 2 instant newage sounding synths )

Novation k station ( good for soft sounds )

Shame there is no Roland D50 vsti

The Novation Fm7 is also worth considering or Fm8

Omnisphere, Alchemy (with some of the add-on libraries, Absynth, (with some of the add-on libraries.

Korg Wavestation if you want to be really authentic.

Have to disagree with this.

Omnisphere has you covered in just about every genre of music; there are loads of 'clean' pads and textures and chimes in there, even the sound of burning incense. Besides, why couldn't new-age music evolve like other genres have, why should 'he want' clean digital sounds, not to mention that again, there are a lot of those in Omni.

Why not just call it 'ambient music' and use whatever soothing, calming sounds are available, oh the horror should they be a bit warmer sounding and not as cold and digital as in the 80's-90's.

Go for Omnisphere, it's a killer of a package, it's easy to have a few patches fly under the radar as there are so many of them. Explore, dig deep, enjoy.

+1 for Omnisphere. I have most of the current VSTs out, but always go back to Omnisphere for Atmospheric stuff.. it's just too good! ; )

If you don't need something that will hog your drive with 50 GB of data, Korg Legacy Collection will definitely do the job for new age.

A software instrument that complements Omnisphere nicely is MOTU's Ethno 2.

Like Omnisphere, Ethno has top-quality sounds (a 21 GB library), but with more of a focus on acoustic and world music textures. Lots of acoustic guitars, and interesting global percussion instruments.

If I were doing "New Age" music (and my own music has a lot of those vibes), Omnisphere and Ethno are all I would need.

All good bits of advice......it seems there are options, but most point to Omni. I was concerned that it wouldn't be such a significant step up from what I use now, but I don't see how it couldn't be... my stuff is pretty ancient, so it's not going to be hard to top it; old QS8, Logic & stock MOTU library. I *have* come up with a great layered piano patch with some pads in the QS8 and a grand in the Nord Piano, but I always think there is SO much I'm missing to take things to a new unique level.
