Let us play a synth/sampler game!!!!

If you could be handed back 5 synths in mint condition that you have let go over the years what would they be and how come? For me and this was a hard decision.

Roland VK8-- need a clone wheel.
Roland VA76--still my favorite midi file player.
Roland VSynth GT--would love another go at it.
Ensoniq ASR-10--easiest and best sampler I have ever owned, great rapid fire fiddle and good organ.
Nord modular G2X-- miss it terribly--decent: presets, effects, action and after touch.

Honorable mention-- Moog Little Phatty, for collectors reason only.

Guess this game has been overdone and no one wants to play. Maybe this should have been an OT thread or not a thread at all. Oh well thought it might be fun, guess not. No harm done I hope. Rock on......

Everyone was expecting a "guess the synth/sampler" game, guess they were disappointed.

5 is quite a lot. Anyway, I'll play:

- Jupiter 6 so I could sell it again for something else heh
- My first Juno-60 that I got long ago
- The Virus C, it's the VA I like best
- The DX7IIFD in mint condition that had to go because I quickly needed cash
- The JX10 I sold to fund my first set of proper monitors

The DX7IIFD bothers me more than the JP6. Just wasn't the synth for me.

i only regret one. my JP4. fortunately they're not the most sought after synth in the world. so there's always a chance i can grab another.. lots of gears to buy first, before that day though.

oh and i would like a mono/poly too .. but that synth was never mine, was just living in my studio for a time.

one synth i regret never buying: minimoog. will never get one. too expensive

I've only let go of an MS2000R. I'd gladly take it back if my studio space wasn't as compact as it is.

Definitely the Access Virus C.But if & whenever i get another Virus it will be of the TI line.

The Korg Polysix too.

However i'm saving for a 5-string fretless bass so the others will have to wait...

Ouch, this one hurts 'cause letting go of

Oberheim Matrix 12
EMU Emulator III
ARP Axxe
Juno 6
Memorymoog+

due to theft/dire financial straits really really sucked. And now prices are higher than they used to be...

Jupiter 8.
Only because they go for insane prices now.
I could also add the 808 for the same reason.

Don't pop today's prices for a polysix... I own one, and its fantastic but with one oscillator per voice you have some limits imposed, even given the fantastic modulation (chorus/phaser/ensemble) effects. At least $1000 for a good specimen, and truth be told, I tend to reach for my Roland Alpha Juno more often, as mine isn't MIDI-retrofitted.

That said, my five are
Sequential Circuits Prophet 2000(I'm a moron for selling it for a TI Snow!)
Korg MicroKorg (miss that vocoder a LOT, lucky they're dirt cheap!)
Moog Source (thought my slim phatty would completely replace it)
Oberheim Matrix 12(didn't know synthesis at the time I sold it)
Hohner String Melody (nothing else does THAT sound as well)

Very close runner up: Sequential Circuits Pro One....miss it badly, but the sliders and pots were dirty and scratched something awful no matter how much I cleaned it and I could buy another for the cost to completely re-pot the whole thing!

With what I already own, I'd be in synthesizer heaven with just a few of these gems back in my collection.... I'm really pretty miffed about buying my Virus TI Snow.... Whenever I make a track with Virus+digitals/software, it is the cream of the crop....but I always have a hard time blending it with my analogs... I end up running it either as a 3rd oscillator for my "poor man's MiniMoog"(slim phatty with extra osc) or using the VCF/EG/VCA of the Moog to blend it better.... I'm not a bad programmer, but its simultaneously too clear and "obscured" when compared to even a simple poly like the Alpha Juno or Polysix. What I really SHOULD do is sell the Snow to a dubstep guy (nothing wrong with that, I had my phase too!) and get one of my 2xVCO polys back.... Or even a DSI Prophet '08 for a modern flavor.

Voyager RME. I could sell it again for a decent price. Somebody got the deal of a lifetime on eBay.

Neptune2. I already bought another one but I'd happily have a second one for modding.

MPC1000. Prolly going to buy a 2500 but would be happy to have the 1000 back.

Microwave XT. I did buy another one but it died not long after I bought it so I am currently without one of my favourite synths. Microwave I should be arriving on Monday which is good.

I can't think of a 5th thing. I suppose the CS-5 I wouldn't say no to but I don't miss it like I did the previous 3. If it wasn't limited to synth/sampler, I'd say the DBX 166.

Jupiter 6. I must have been crazy to let it go, now with the prices so ridiculous there is no chance. I have to console myself with my near new JP 8080. It isn't the same, but it's a poor mans Jupe.

I kinda miss my Alpha Juno. I wouldn't mind an MKS 50 one day.

1. korg trident (mkI)
2. kawai k5000s
3. novation supernova rack
4. yamaha dx-100
5. ensoniq sq-80

and just to qualify why numbers 2-5 are so cheap and i wish i had them back isn't because of the synths themselves i wish i had them back because of the patches i wrote. i could always pick any of the bottom 4 up for under 500 at any time but the patches i had....

Alesis Andromeda A6
Rhodes Chroma
Korg Trident
Yamaha AN1x
Korg Wavestation A/D

Sold in different periods and for different reasons. Andromeda still hurts, as it's a recent sale.

  1. Rhodes Chroma + Expander
  2. DK Synergy II + Kaypro
  3. Oberheim OB-Xa
  4. Korg Sigma
  5. Korg BX3

These left a huge hole in my stack of synths and keyboards. Basically these all went out the door because of space issues, and an impending relocation. :(

Waldorf Q Rack, didnΒ΄t use it that often, miss it anyway.
Elektron Monomachine
Oxford OSCar, i donΒ΄t want to talk about it

i have a modded moog rogue which i intent to sell for years now, i just canΒ΄t do it, never heared another synth where the beating of the Oscillators sounds that awesome.
