Moog, big announcements, Voyager is 10!

Hey fellow synth-o-holics, Moog made an announcement about the 10 years of Voyager and they continue to pump up the hype by promising some big announcements over the next days...It's speculation time!

What do you think it will happen? I only hope that it won't be a Korg-like disappointment in the form of clever iOS app or some even more presets for that Animoog.

A polyphonic Moog would be great, but it'd probably cost as much as a small car.

What about a Voyager-2? What is missing from that "equation"?

How much did the Polymoog cost back when it first existed?

2 voices? It would compete with the $3495 Oberheim TVS.

A repackaged Voyager in a new color? I don't hold my breath...

Somehow a pimped to the max Minitaur would excite me more, than a repackaged or spec-down Voyager.

I was thinking $3500 but $5295 sounds right. This would be in 1978 or so dollars. In today's dollars probably closer to $10,000. So back then it was almost the price of a small car.

You seem a bit optimistic on price.

It might be a new OS rack!!! They have posted that picture in facebook with that riddle:

"Your last chance ever is also your best chance ever."

Looks like an OS rack to me!

I'd be all over an OS rack/desktop version, but isn't that just the front panel of the regular Voyager OS?

I'd like to see a voyager XL desktop with all or most of the foogers integrated. And designed to be played with Animoog! Who knows though.

Controversial opinion, but I don't think keyboards attached to synths are forward thinking or all that necessary in this day and age. Besides, with a monosynth why couldn't someone play that on a Mashine, MPC(or more likely piano roll/clips!)? And wouldn't most people like the cost savings?

I'm not really sure right now, but I think that the regular OS has much more space between the controls..

Yes, but if you look at the RME, it could well be possible..

I knew all analog and looper would mean tape... but nah have a digital looper. OS rack is actually a great idea.. none of my mono synths have patch mem

Wow - has it already been ten years? Time flies... does anybody remember how they had the naming competition when it came out, and the winner would win the first one?

I remember that I submitted "Dominator" as my entry. I still think it sounds better than Voyager

For the older GSers here... what name did you submit?

If you primarily use their products in the studio it makes sense, but don't forget the (rather large) segment of the market that uses them for live performance. That's why we have both!

Is the regular OS control panel backlit like the Voyager proper?

Surely that's not the "big announcement", though, right?

Not surprising they are discontinuing Select series. I mean, thy couldn't make those forever. Maybe they are going to start producing cheaper voyagers without an all wood cabinet. They have seem to got big enough to start bigger production. Isn't that how companies work? just speculative guessing.

I think it can't be an OS with all the backlit knobs. A part of its "philosophy" was pure analog, zero bells & whistles. The oldschool voyager didn't have backlit controls.

It can't be a voyager XL either. They used the "40th" anniversary excuse for that. But if there's a price drop on the select series, and the rme is being discontinued - it indeed might be a new generation Voyager.
