thank everyone for the replies, I've settled on two strongest tracks. Sorry to bump with another question but should I get my demo songs professionally mastered before sending them out? The labels I'm sending to all use their own ME's..pretty sure that none of the artists are mastering their own. thanks again for really helpful responses

It's not vital. If you know it needs remixed, or mastered, or both, the label will see the writing and arrangement and make decisions based on that. Is this a talent acquisition, or are you just looking for distribution for one song/album? It could change my answer...

thank you for the answer. Do you mean by talent acquisition, being signed to the label as an artist rather than releasing an ep/single only?

Yes. As a label acquiring talent, they're looking for substance over production anyways. With a release, they want it ready to go (deal permitting).

I work as music radio station manager and listen to plenty of music every week that private people as well as recording companies/distributors send in for broadcasting. Two songs of different character is perfect, otherwise I'll be bored and you waste my time. If its good I want to hear more, if not you'll need to work more with your music.

Beware of thick labels on the CD - many such will be stucked in computers such MacBook Pro (common) that has very tight CD tray - that will give frustration instead of success.

If sending files by digital distribution (MP3), be sure to send album art and information (including your Web page address). The information should be short. Long letters are not serious and no one have interest if reading long letters - are you that special? If so, let your music prove that instead. Tag the MP3 files appropriate and add the album art to the files - that gives you a professional attitude. Many miss that detail and such files will be anonymous and uninteresting in the download folder of songs.

Good luck with your music!

This is one of the better tracks of the Tanztone Records label, released officially in june 2012.

YouTube plays (artist page): 719
Soundcloud plays (artist page): 955
Soundcloud plays (label page): 0

So the track isn't really in promo but they got the next 13 releases (eps of course) in petto:

So it's not hard to sign many/all of your tracks today, but this doesn't matter at all as you can see above.

Even with promo from Maceo Plex.

Even on a label founded 2009 with 70 releases.
But what's Your problem? You are wrong man. We don't release 'every' tracks but selected quality deep-house stuff. Not Our fault that there is lot of good music around us.

Anyway, You are welcome to listening Our upcoming release:

That you don't heavily promote tracks like "Alone In The World". Lesser releases and more promo please!

Sending an unsolicited demo is pretty much the hardest, least successful way of bringing your music to the attention of a record company. I'm making an assumption the genre here is electronic dance music or underground rather than commercial pop or something? It's far far better to build a personal relationship with a label if you can - if you've struck up a conversation of some sort, your music is far more likely to be listened to. Find a small label that specialises in the sub genre you're working in and ensure your tune is of release quality. Get that first tune out and build from there. Demo's only make sense in band/songwriter contexts. In the electronic music world, there isn't such a thing as a demo that will get you signed, just unreleased tunes. Anything less and you're wasting everyone's time including your own.
