What gear did Newcleus use?

I really love their drum and bass sounds. From what I've read, the bass is from a 303, not sure about the drums.

I have ableton suite, and I recently purchased Nick's Tutortials. I'd like to figure out how to get a sound similar to the 303, or whatever they used. It seems that all of the 303 tutorials can't really capture the elastic/bouncy sound of the 303.

Any suggestions?

Well, as far as "Jam On It" goes, it sounds like they used a TR-808 for the drums, and a TB-303 for the arppegiated sound heard at the back the the mix. Not sure about the bass sound though. That could be any number of synths. The TB-303 comes in at 1:47 here

Thanks Craig.

Yes, Chilly B and I wrote and played everything (except on "Where's The Beat" and for those annoying synth drums on "I Wanna Be A B-Boy"). We drew our influences from all over, Jazz, Funk, New Wave, Disco... plus we started out as a street DJ crew in the '70s so we were basically Hip-Hop in it's rawest earliest form. I would say that our chief influences were P-Funk, DEVO, Gary Numan, Jean Michelle Jarre, and of course Kraftwerk. We probably borrowed most from P-Funk and Kraftwerk, but we didn't try to sound like them.

The big bonkin electro bass is usually Pro One. Used by Newcleus on Jam On It, as well as by Pretty Tony and Juan Atkins.

Yeah I had a hunch that it may have been a Pro-One. Wasn't sure though. Good to see some fellow electro heads on this forum Electro funk is what got me into electronic music in the first place.
