NAMM 2011 Predictions / Rumours Thread

It's getting close to NAMM (Jan 13th). Alot of the electronic music / software companies have been very silent recently (Ableton, Native Instruments and Spectrasonics in particular). Not all of these companies even have a presence at NAMM any more but quite often make announcements to coincide with it.

So what are we expecting to see announced at the event or around that time?

I'll kick the ball off (these are not based on anything other than fantasy):

Native Instruments

I expect them to announce one of the following:

1. Kore 3 with a new controller.

Having learnt how do to SW/HW integration properly with Maschine. It's high time they apply this to the Kore platform. I'd love to see a bigger Kore controller (sold alongside the existing one) that incorporates more controls: 9 faders, more knobs, bigger screens with graphics.

2. A new VST synth / controller combo:
This would be basically the synth equivalent of Maschine: a VST synth and controller that were built for each other from the ground up, with the same level of integration (this is NOT the same as Kore which is more general purpose).

Ableton

Live 9: A 64-Bit (stable) version of Live with the following new features:
  • 64 bit
  • Clip Automation
  • Convolution Reverb
  • Multi Tap Delay
  • Soundcloud integration
  • Wavetable Synth Instrument
  • Ability to freeze sidechained tracks
  • Apply grooves to arpeggiators, clip envelopes and LFOs.
  • Multiple arrangements / arrangement pages per set.
Spectrasonics
  • Sample import into Omnisphere
  • A new version of Stylus RMX
  • New patches for Omnisphere and Trilian
Jazzmutant
iPad release of their software
Elektron
8 Track FX unit with sequencable FX (a hardware version of Effectrix).
Access
A new Virus TI version.
Waldorf
Launch date for Stromberg (losing the run of myself here!).

I only expect Ableton Live 9, and nothing great...it's time of crisis.

And few little products from small companies, (software and litlle hardware units)

My hopes on the hardware front aren't high.

If I were a betting man:

Korg will release something they already have....in a different colour

Roland will release yet another synth based on JP8000

Yamaha [Dr Evil voice on] Rrriiiiiigggggghhhhht [/Dr Evil voice off]

Akai will continue to copy everything Korg released 2 years back.

...oh, and tons of software and ****

Sunsyn '11?

One can dream.

Here's what I want...
something like a Haken Continuum but
with an onboard editing system.

An instrument, polyphonic aftertouch, no
computer required. Something you can
play and get organic results and dynamic
expression, while avoiding cheesy 80s guitar
riffs.

I want something like an 8 voice version of the DSI Mopho. I would buy that immediately.

Since Ableton will not be at NAMM I doubt there will be an update. I am still waiting for SHARE for Live 8, which is almost 2 years overdue.

I think most of the offerings will be 64bit versions everything.
Then a bunch of cheap gear from Roland, Yamaha and Korg.

I will be there this year and I would love to check out Octatrack.

What they need to do is make an MPC that integrates with Ableton Live and can save/load/play your Live sets in a stand-alone mode. Kind of like an MPC version of the Virus TI or something.

Roland will release the Fantom successor for girls called: the Roland Tampon
=)

but on a serious note the Radikal Accelerator and Krurzweil VA-1 will be on display (I know they are not completely new but they are taking the VA sound to the next level (about time too).. so I look forward to some demos..

My wish would be a Jomox product combining the mbase and mbrain in a Xbase and airbase formatt..

another would be a portable live digital mixer similar to the old VM3100 ... except it have to be on a very high grade level from the A/D and throughout the DSP ..

Most of those are already announced/confirmed right?
If I'm dreaming I might as well wish for a Serge Variable State Filter clone in Eurorack. Maybe by Toppobrillo? Maybe Bananalogue makes a comeback?

I'm watching both of those and waiting on initial impressions. I already have the k2661 so am inclined to go w radikal. tho I love the flexibility of kurz. honestly both are companies I enjoy supporting

I'm betting (hoping) that it's the next successor in the Evolver lineup. DSI just (re-)discontinued the PER, so maybe they're replacing it with a knobby desktop or rackmount version???

...OK, cryo,...calm down, take a deep breath....nothing has been announced yet, so step away from the credit card....

The VA-1, based on what I've read on the intrawebs, will be displayed as part of a larger "history" display at the Kurzweil booth. They're not releasing it afaik. You get many of the VA-1's goodies with the PC3xx anyways -- the oscillators and filter models are available to be used with the PC3's version of VAST along side all the usual Kurzweil suspects (WRAP, SHAPER, xGAIN, etc). Plus you get all the virtual modular benefits of the PC3's OS, such as routing the DSP of a Layer into any other Layer.
