distressor or ssl

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a distressor el 8s or a ssl compressor?

Which of these two compressors will make your sound most vivid?
What is ths biggest difference between these two?

Thx

SSL is great but the Distressor is so much more flexible

We own both an SSL compressor and a Distressor. The SSL is really nice, very very punchy and clean sounding. The distressor is much more versitile! If you have the cash get both, if choosing one I would definately recommend a Distressor.

I have the ssl plugins on the MX4 card. How is the SSL hardware in comparison?

Does the Distressor give you the "SMACK" that the ssl can on drums?
But the distressor can also emulate an LA-2A'ish sound to an extent (with the same distortion/warmth?)
