looks like a korg m3-m workstation.

on top are 4 dorrough meters.

that thing between the meters and the korg looks like a channelstrip or a mic pre, but i don't know it...

the korg is that big white synth minus keyboard. is that what you are asking?

then there is some 1u rack thing under the meters.

Those meters are not horribly expensive, but I wonder how they would provide any real value?

if you are running signal out of your computer (or anything) and into a hardware processor you would know how loud in and how loud out.

or if your AD converter has no level meters and you are wondering how much headroom you have before clipping then the meters can be helpful.. since many software mixers in DAWs don't really zero w/the real world.

some people like that. though it's just as easy to turn the knob until it sounds right (or wrong)

in a mastering/mixing situation meters are important..

plus if you are tracking a bunch of stuff and hear something distort it's easier to look at the meters than it is to solo every fader until you find the one that is distorting.. just look for the in the red!

that's a pretty sweet desk to have the m3 flush mount to the surface like that. the m3m is not 19" nor does it have rack ears, so some kind of custom scoop? nice vid.

His mixes have such a great sound, I would expect a slavish concern over gain- and juicing every inch of it out of your gear. Wish I could make mixes like his (sonically).

I've been using NTP and RTW meters.
These provide a reference (if calibrated correctly)
Software meters are always relative (i.o.w. depend on the A-D stage since they come afterwards) and don't always tell everything (intersample peaks).
So I like to know what is going to hit the input stage of the A-D before it arrives.

Haha. Thats almost ironic. $300 minitors (used price).
(plus the sub ofcourse)
I like this style. Why change something that works.
And, damn it works!

People are always talking about getting high-end
converters and ultra-super-flat-response-reference $10000 monitors
with a $5000 2-buss comp in the mixing chain, bla bla bla.
And this guy is making ****loads of $$$$$ with his tannoy reveal active.
I think thats brilliant to see.

I remember doing a mix on these some years ago, actually
quite nice bass response for remixing stuff.
I might buy the $300 pair I saw for use on my office computer.
For quick beat making while I'm paying invoices for my K+H O300D and Dramastic Audio Obsidian, and mytek 8x192, and Buzz API lunchbox, and... heh

For the genre of music that Axwell makes he is pretty much at the top of his game IMO that makes him big; alongside the rest of the swedes, bob sinclair and deadmau5.

You do have a point. He's note huge. I know. But I do think he is great, and ONE of the big ones in the genre.

You're saying he's not?

Who cares anyway, it's great music.
