can u use 128mb SmartMedia cards in RS7000 ?

a question for RS7000 users..

im just starting to use it. manual (written in 2001) says this about compatible cards:

 Compatible Memory Card Type
3.3V(3V) Memory Cards can be used. 5V type Memory Cards
are not compatible with this instrument.
A blank 8MB Memory Card has been included in your instrument.
* SmartMedia is a trademark of Toshiba Corporation.
 Memory Capacity
There are five types of Memory Cards: 2MB/4MB/8MB/16MB/
32MB. A Memory Card with the memory capacity exceeding
32MB can also be used if it conforms to the standards of SSFDC
(Solid State Memory Card: another name of SmartMedia) Forum.

so im wondering, if i buy a later, 128MB card, will it work, will RS7000 "recognize" all 128MBytes ?

something like this Samsung 128mb - they are fairly cheap, and since i intend to gig, id rather buy cpl of those than lug a SCSI disk.

if there are any other developments when it comes to memory id love to know about it im thinking, hypothetically, some kind of adapter for newer card formats to smartmedia slot, that would allow me to have access to much bigger memory like 512MB or even gigabytes on a single card ??

(for example, they did this for some old emu samplers)

thanks in advance.

Yes you can use 128 meg SM cards in the RS7000 ( have done so). I prefer to use 64 meg cards however because the sample memory maxes out at 64 anyway. Keeps things more tidy for me.

just my $0.02.
I'm pretty sure it actually maxes out at 64mb ram, and that the built-in 4mb are left unused after installing extra ram. I always found this a bit strange myself, especially since the su700 will still make use of the in-built ram after upgrading (giving a total of 68mb available ram).

right you are. thanks for correcting me. you'd think i would've learned by now to verify my dodgy recollections before posting them all willy-nilly.

i'll edit my post so as not to confuse some poor soul.

If anybody is interested, I've just found Olympus 128MB SM card and XD-SMC Adapter at home from the times I used to have RS7K.
