Waldorf Q card

Where on earth can I find one or two of these memory cards ?

out of "Waldorf FAQ" website.

Q: Are there any third-party QCards?

A: Any chipcard in that particular "credit card" format advertised as "I2C memory card" or "ISO memory card" or "serial memory card" with 256kBit and 32kByte should be compatible, there is only a very slight chance that it isn't. You can also build these yourself from an adapter card normally used to emulate processor cards and a 24LC256 chip. The prices vary greatly from around $10 all the way up to $50, so check carefully.

The Q won't admit there is a card inserted unless it is properly "formatted" by using a PC based card reader. If you get your cards bundled with a card reader or already have one, the demo program that usually comes with it enables you to replace the first 36 bytes with the magic

0000: 57 64 43 57 00 80 00 00 16 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
0010: 51 43 61 72 64 20 49 6E 69 74 56 31 2E 33 2E 32
0020: FF FF 7F DC

and you'll have an empty QCard that is named "QCard InitV1.3.2" (for those who can't read hex dumps :-). The three lines above should actually be put into a file, as at least the Towitoko demo programmer is able to read hex dumps directly (many other programs will read that format too). If it doesn't, don't blame me; if your Q breaks, I'm not responsible etc. pp. On the Q+ you can format QCards from the Utilities menu while it is in service mode.

In Germany you can buy electrically compatible cards most easily from Reichelt Elektronik:

http://www.reichelt.de/inhalt.html?ARTIKEL=CHIPKARTE%2032KB ^

- i ordered a few third party cards a few years back, simple memeory cards that do the job perfect, each card costs me around $8, saves up to 100 patches, i cant remember which website which i ordered from..

anyway, search.. with little work you could get them for cheap.

Thanks for that cosmos.
I have that page book marked and was searching for
"I2C memory card" or "ISO memory card" or "serial memory card"
but with no luck so far I think these cards are obsolete therefor hard to find
so frustrating...

no problem to get them, email these guys with your needs Card Product, or these Didya.com. Smart Card SLE4442 - low cost smart card (thats exactly how the card should looks like), you will need a 256kBit and 32kByte memory card, they may have it. Also, they will not sell you just one card, i had to buy 10 minimum from the company that i orderd from.. great! more space.

the trick is format it so the Q could read it, i have the Q+ for that

Good show!! Thanks!!

I will email them see what they can do..

I thought I read somewhere that the card can be initialized on a PC
so that the Q could read it?

Congrats on owning the Q+ I had a chance to buy one fairly cheap
but for some reason I passed some excuse about having a sherman filterbank and a nice blue Q board
I really regret it now tho...

I built a small simple robust device that formats generic memory cards to become QCards by simply plugging the card into the device for about 2 seconds.
If someone is interested in such device email me at:
