How are you using convolution reverbs?

On a buss 100% wet? Pre or post fader? Tweaked per instrument? Just for plates? Just for more important instruments or on everything?

Not at all. I prefer the temporal modulation available in algorithmic reverbs, e.g., Lexicon Random Hall and Random Ambience, Kurzweil KSP8, Eventide Black Hole (among others), AMS RMX16 Ambience, Sony DPS Plates, Roland RSS System, t.c. electronic VSS3/4, and so on, that cannot be achieved via convolution - at least as it concerns their use with synthesis-based electronic music production.

That said, if I was going to use a convolution-based impulse reverb effect, I would almost certainly use it on an aux send, as with most 'verbs. I might only send one thing to that aux, but it would still be via a send, i.e., in parallel with the source.

cheers,
Ian

depends really.. i mostly use algo based ones, but thats probably just because i havent found the right convo verb for me... or the right impulses maybe? i just find it easier to get a sound i like out of a algorithmic one.

oh, and always a send...

I use both algo and convo (50 % wet of each) in series on a buss and then send to it from instruments.

I have only just started using convulsion reverb after getting the acousticas lexicon 300 ir's. Im still sat on the fence whether i like em or not but I'm using em so they cant be to bad. I use em via send 100% wet etc

Buss 100% wet post Fader, Mostly.

I dont like using irs on an insert basis - the wet dry relationship is kind whacked. Or at least not what I am used to from normal reverbs
