Blofeld vs. Mopho

I'm thinking about buying one of these cheap little bastards ..

If you had to choose between these two, which one would you pick? And why?

Or would you recommend saving for a Virus TI Snow?

Thx..

Mopho, coz it's analog and sounds fatter.
But keep in mind, the Mopho is monophonic. You won't be able to do smooth string chords with it... Depends on what you want to use is mainly..

I had and sold both. I liked the Blofeld better and didn't want to sell it but needed the cash. Was glad to get rid of the mopho.
But it really depends on what you want to use it for.

Blofeld, although saving for the Snow doesn't sound half as bad.

Cheers

U hadn't write what will U using it for. Mopho will do good with bass things, blofeld imho is more versatile and is polyphonic.

I have the Snow & the Mopho. I have also demo'd the Blofield a few times.
They both have their place and the Blofield sounds great, but if I had to choose I would wait for the Snow. The software intergration and the power of that little ba$tard make it a great piece for me.

If you work & mix ITB it makes life easier and is an easy fit.

I bought the Mopho recently. It´s not only for bass. It does everything a mono can do very well. It sounds awesome. For the Blofeld you got to love that Waldorf sound. If you do, it´s perfect. Played it in the shop and it really was fun. Personally I don´t find the plug in feature of the TI very apealing. It used to be very bugy, maybe not anymore.

Just get the Mopho and Blofeld and send back what you don´t like. Although thats dangerous, you might keep them both...

Thanks for the nice comments all.

Maybe I should point out that I only wanted to show the different sound character. I love them both. The demos aren't suited to judge between the two.

The Mopho demo has been half way arranged and mixed with the use of EQs, compressors, fx and so on while the Blo demo is more a live recording without processing. Only the internal fx were used.

IMO the Mopho isnt much of a players style synth, so its not a synth you can really play chords and things on. It really is a great machine for bass, effects, lead lines, appregiated type sequences. I've liked it just to have some more analog character in some tunes. I never was a big fan of waldorf, never felt musical to me, but I had the XT. For a digital synth, yeah the snow or virus are cool.

I have a Mopho running thru a MF101 filter and then thru my Avalon U5 and it sounds AMAZING! If you are looking for fat analog bass, leads or fx look no further. Can't say anything about the Blofeld yet. Have not got my hands on one of those yet.

both.

they're apples & oranges...

blofeld is obviously far more flexible and equipped with a wider sonic palette. mopho has that analogical goodness.

I got both and both boxes have lot's of character and are very different.
(The mopho is also very different to the evolver)

But it all depends on your needs.
The mopho is no one trick pony but you will need to overdub since it is monophonic. Editing from the panel is bit awkward but the editor software makes it much easier.

The blofeld have a great little interface. I really like the big lcd and editing on it. I'm a fan of combfilters and distortion so when Waldorf came out with this one I just had to get one.
The presets are a bit meh but that is easy to fix.
Make shure you have a pressure sensitive keyboard when testing one though, qute a few patches make use of it. (And tweek when testing!!! it's very easy and makes a huge difference from meh to H*ll Yeah!)

The only problem I have with both is that I keep making so massive sounds that they eat my mix. I just need to practice more sound design (and maybe limit my self).

Summary:
Very cool boxes, Very different flavor, Both very tasty
