Does the Juno 60 with Kenton midi upgrade behave like a Juno 106?

Both are nice synths.
If memory serves me they have a slightly different sound and some different features. But it's more than ten years since I used either.

i think they have different oscillators and one has an arpeggiator or something. check vintagesynth.com for specifics.

Roland Juno-60 :

No Midi. Instead it has DCB
56 memories
Arpeggiator
No portamento
3 modes of chorus

Roland Juno-106 :

Midi
128 memories
No arpeggiator
Portamento
2 modes of chorus

Both are equally good but different sounding.

I think you guys are misunderstanding my question. What I'm wondering is if a Juno 60 with the Kenton midi upgrade will give you the same MIDI FUNCTIONS as a JUNO 106. Not the same SOUND as the 106 ,just MIDI functions. Does anyone here have a Juno 60 with the Kenton Midi upgrade? Has anyone ever used one the upgrade?

Thanks in Advance.

Well I think people have tried to answer generally (both midi, features and sound).
Have you looked up the Kenton midi spec?
Kenton - Retrofit kits

Compare that to the 106 midi functions and you have your answer.

if you want midi control over all the paramaters on the J60 - my guess would be no

if you want aftertouch or velocity - my answer is still no

if you want note on and off - then yes!

i have both...and they do sound different - i was looking at that same box to add midi, but dont really need it

I have that kit. Totally expands the Juno. It adds a second LFO, adds velocity (i.e. velo -> filter), and other things etc. For details, see their web page.

I had one and it worked as advertised. Adding some cool features like lfo to filter cutoff allowed for some cool sounds not normally available for the JU-60 and I got mine for $155 with shipping from Czech Republic. Look like they have updated it also.

Yup. I had a version 1 box and it did that just fine. I have not gone over what they added with the update. You can also use your Juno as a midi controller also with this.

The Juno 106 transmits EVERY slider move via sysex. It's great. Want to trade your Juno 60 for my Juno 106?

IIRC, the chd had more features (maybe even more now) but the big thing is price, the Kenton goes for about $270

Unfortunately they are hard to find in reasonable price range. Just two years ago i gave $300 for mine (in mint condition). Prices since then went crazy...

Right. I am wondering if its worth the price of admission.
I have not seen one for less than 600 on Ebay and know a dealler who has a beat up one for 800 and a mint one for 1200.
But then the same dealer has Rouges for 900 so go figure.
I think it is Probally a good idea to buy one now at these prices. I do not tink they will go back down. Just up.
