Making a Chill Out Album

Hello All,

Im new here, fantastic site!!!!

I am currently making a 'Chill Out' Album and keep hitting a brick wall.

Naturally i am using alot of deep rich pads for this album but find myself running the pads right through the track because if i take them out for the middle 16 the track sounds rather empty.

I have tried replacing the sound with strings, other synths etc... but the vibe of the tracks are no longer present.

This could of course could be an issue with the mix of the track as once i am happy with the arrangements etc.. i will take them to a studio and get them mixed down professionally. I just dont know.

I would really appreciated any ideas/feedback not mater how simple or bizzare on how to take out the pads (to give the listeners a breather) but without making the tracks sound empty and soulless.

cheers
Digital Send

p.s. I hope i have put this in the correct forum, if not please move it and accept my apology!

remember the many Rs of ambient goodness:

reverb, render, reverse, repitch, reverb... rinse & repeat

heh

seriously though - recording massive long reverb tails, then repitching them, reversing them, and thickening them with a clangy springverb (or washing them out with another epic spaceverb) leads to all sorts of beautiful background textual stuff which can add depth and body to a section whilst still referencing the original pad.

i guess, you need to listen more chill out music, to understand it.
a friend i know, made this album last year,
Colombia Chill: A Special Blend of Colombian Chill Out

i like track #5.
but cant ask him rightnow, becouse is busy working making the music for a local tv show.
