Remember getting a good look at their live rig back in 96 and this setup looks about the same. There's an SH-101 above the Prophecy, Roland R70 beside it. In the small rack there is an Ensoniq DP/4 and possibly DP/2 along with a Quadraverb. In front of the MMT8 group is probably a Novation Bass Station. When I saw them they were also using a Kenton Pro4 to for CV/Gate to the older analog and also to MIDI up the 808.
Just realized there should be an Emu E3 and E64 hiding up there somewhere.
Prophecy, hrm. That's interesting, because it came out in 1995. I wrote Paul Hartnoll on MySpace and he sent me the lists of synths they used on In Sides and that wasn't one of them. But there they are, gigging with it in 1995. Seems like the only album they could have used it on during that time was In Sides itself. I don't know what it sounds like enough to know whether Paul omitted one of the synths from his list.

Do you know whether an E3 and an E64 is going to sound all that much different from an EX4T?
Have no idea really. I do recall them having every conceivable output from the samplers run into the mixer which at that time were a Mackie sr 24-4 and 1604. At the time I was also thinking that the e6400 had just come out but that they had an e64. You can barely spot the samplers in the photo angled in on the left about chest high in a road case.
As for the Prophecy, I remember reading that they never got it in time for In Sides but live I'm pretty sure it was doing the square wave lead sound during "The Girl With The Sun In Her Head" as either Phil or Paul mucked about with a setting or two and we could hear affecting that part.
At one point I could have told you which synth was playing what parts during most of the songs live but my memory is starting to fail.
No problem. I went to the shows with a couple of other synth nuts and we watched the road crew take down the setup and also asked 'em a few questions about the rig.

I was actually at this gig assuming it was the new years' eve one
Great showmen
Even being a gearslut I have to say the most truly awesome thing was their visuals
(I still cant get the "satan live" images - eg snarling dogs, war, death - out of my head)
That night also featured a set by sasha and digweed that seemed to go on for several days and a queue for the only bog between about 5000 people of similar length
This is what I have figured out from all the feedback:
Left Rack:
- Top Row: Roland Jupiter 6
- Middle Row: Alesis MMT8 (x3), Novation BassStation
- Bottom Row: Roland R8, Roland TR-909, Roland TR-808
Front Rack:
- Mackie Mixer?
Right Rack:
- Top Row: Oberheim Xpander, Roland TB-303
- Middle Row: Roland SH-101, Alesis Quadraverb, Ensoniq DP/4, possibly also a DP/2
- Bottom Row: Korg Prophecy, ?, ?
