$5k for an OB-6.....
Your link doesn't work. It got abbreviated by the forum. Is it this one? clicky

eBay links have a lot of query string crap on them that the forum might mangle, but taking them off seems to work ok.

I always see weird synth listings from Japan. I would never buy one from there, because of shipping costs and voltage differences, though a modern synth should have a universal power supply.

Now THIS OB-6 is a lot more reasonably priced, though it's not mint:

$200 for shipping though is steep compared to most other sellers, but even after adding that it's still cheaper than the others.

It was there for a day before it sold. Some items (like the S950) have captured the imagination of a percentage of the music-making public. Or they are being bought by speculators.
An MPC4K went up for like $3000 this morning. Whether he gets it..

sometimes it feels like there are two types of music kit consumer. one knows what things are worth and the other just wants something really expensive to say its expensive. i think it shows the wealth divide. There 1-2% wont blink an eye over a 5k sp1200 or 6k 808, which most of use cant not only afford but know that the product is simply not worth it. YOur looking at alot gen x that grew up wanting that stuff and now has the money to buy. Lets face it, most people dont want to but unless you are making about 200k(if you are single) you arent middle class, if you arent clearing a million a year, you arent rich unless you have maybe 10 million in assets an minimal debt.

another thing that led to these high prices was/is idiot buyers who don’t know how auction sites work and screwed themselves. before ebay demos were a big thing, the Synthmania site was a resource of synth demos, specs, etc... our good friend was buying a lot of these on ebay 10-20 years ago, growing his collection. talking about this here years back, he not only revealed that he always put in his max bid days before the auction ended (giving anyone a chance to run the price up to outbid him), but the f’ing guy argued that this wasn’t the dumbest thing that you could possibly do as a buyer. (?!?!) the more people did this the worse it got, the market never recovered. once the art school hipster girls discovered synths it was all over.
