In Ableton Live it's easy to replicate this with an Audio Effect Rack.

This basically splits your audio signal in your channel in as many "mini channels" called chains as you want. This way you can do whatever you want in each of these chains, without having to resort to send return channels.

It's also worth noting that these Effects Racks can be saved which becomes quite handy.

Ableton is not the only one that can do that, either (eg Tracktion Waveform), should you want to use it that way.

Afaik ableton and reaper are the only daw's which let you create a feedback routing between mixer tracks .

So you can ad a pitch shifter and or frequency shifter +reverb +delay inside the feedback loop .
Make sure the delay is set to no feedback , since the gain slider of the mix track now fulfills that duty.
Adding a compressor or limiter wouldn't hurt either

Just wanted to echo how great this delay is (see what i did there), I use it almost too much (along with ValhallaPlate). Would love to use it live but I don't use my laptop on stage...any chance of a pedal format?

On this track I used it on the spoken work and vocals and it took the track to another dimension....granted it was a bit out there to start.

I just had to replace a few VDs because even with the age turned off and mod to zero on hifi mode, the plugin keeps detuning the repeats and at the exact wrong moment, in another track. Clusterferk.
Also we still dont get a dry/wet control scheme so we can see how much wet to add without affecting the dry signal when using inline.

I haven't been following this plugin... I think I tried v. 1.0 or 1.2 or something, the early ones...

One thing I remember irritated me to no end, two things actually,

1. I couldn't mouse scroll through modes or times. Everything had to be clicked, picked from a pull-down menu.. terrible GUI shortcoming and a major workflow killer.

2. The preset browser was broken or something. Hitting arrows left or right didn't browse presets in any order it seemed like but pulled them in random order.

I liked the sound but it was such a PITA to use.

Has any of these issues been resolved yet?

I don't find those to be "issues" as you say, and no, the UI is still easy to use without those features. Sounds like you should stick with something else.

Don Gunn (@bleen) just sent over a great example of the new PhaserDDL mode for ValhallaDelay in action:



The first four bars are dry, consisting of a single Flea 249 microphone through a Standard Audio Level-Or. ValhallaDelay then kicks in with all of its classic phaser glory for the duration of the clip, utilizing the 4-stage mode with some diffusion added for extra phaser soup!

Just thought I'd give it another try. Not sure why Valhalla doesn't add mouse scrolling to their plugins. Does it take some extraordinary programming skill they don't have or something to implement?

Love it, use it all the time, vintage verb is solid gold as well.

I tried to audition room reverb sounds with Vintage Verb last night and I thought I was going crazy because I couldn't just click the arrows to get to the next preset in the list. I had to keep opening the menu to choose the next room preset. I don't get it. The reverb sounds nice but that's strange behavior. It was a buzz kill for me.
I wondered if it was a bug, but if the delay browser does it as well then it must be a UI decision.

I'm a huge fan of Valhalla Delay and it has truly become my go-to at almost all times as of late. I recently bought the UAD RMX DMX 15-80 delay, though, and it reminded me of a feature I would really love in more delays: the ability to pan the delays independently! One step further that would be amazing, would be the ability to pan the dry/incoming signal and both the left and right delays as well. Is this something we might ever see in Valhalla Delay? I know this is something I could achieve with routing in my DAW, but it's a hefty set up each time. Often, when I'm trying to recreate sounds I love from old records, I find that a key to getting the sound right is how the delays are panned vs the direct signal. I think it would be really amazing to be able to do this from within the plugin itself.

Either way, though this is essentially a feature request, I want my main message to be: thank you Sean for such an amazing delay! It really has changed the sound of what I do. I wish more plugin developers could achieve this level of all-around quality in sound, UI, and intuitive use.

Yes, I like tons of output control too. Especially the idea of independent volumes on the dry/wets which I have suggested before a few times.

In an age of instant recall - I like to have certain sounds integral with their delays inline when i recall them, EVEN if I change them in the new track or move the delay to a bus for "global" aux access to it.
And if I have a perfect level for something, I don't like a blend control to be needlessly attenuating the dry ratio and changing my perception.

Also, automating a delay on the track itself is just a bit more instant than bussing it, and it's more evident/intuitive when you come back to a track and see it in the track auto lanes. Progress.

This idea plus a delay mode with a State Variable res filter filter on instead of the eq would be perfect inclusions IMO.

Otherwise, VHD is my prime delay now, except for extreme dub.

I'd love to see something like that. Also pan randomization of delays would be really awesome.

It looks like a great instrument. I think any synth is so influential that it sounds the same. In a good way.

Picked this up today. I had heard only good things about VintageVerb for a long time, and I bought that about a month ago. I'll give a +1 to everything positive said about it. Been extremely happy with it. One of my best music purchases in a long time.

Still tinkering around with the delay, but it's feeling very similar. It's deceivingly capable of some complex and creative sounds, and I love how it can get a little dirty vibe going. The built in ducking presets are nicely done as well, and I immediately recognized one of them from an acid track I heard recently... Definitely sounded very similar if not.

It's looking like Plate and Room might have to find their way into my toolbox before long as well. I don't mind giving my money to people who actually take pride in their craft. Kudos to the Valhalla crew. You guys are doing good work.

Oh, and PLEASE make a spring reverb!

I know I've said this elsewhere, but Valhalla DSP has made my composing/producing life so much better over the last decade. Here's a track I did for a composers' group, and it makes heavy use of Valhalla Delay (as well as Room). The BBD mode is my bread and butter, absolutely love it!
