I was kind of hoping the akai force would be a standalone fx module. Specifically just the “howl” knob.

Looks like two stereo, with the thoughtful addition of CV. Okay!

But as one who has never used Live or Push, what are the advantages of using Force over, say (being a smartass here), a computer with Live/Push and USB MIDI (and assuming CV converter)? Latencies?
Where I am going with this is referring to the "no computer" reference that they even drop in the SS article.
I am just trying to see the real breakthrough here... besides the obvious Box That Can Do It All.
Without a computer.
Please don't tell me this has to do with the visual aspect, i.e. want to do everything Live, but that pesky laptop image problem....
Maybe I am missing something, which I usually am. I can see this as an excellent piece for someone like myself, 20-odd years ago, that was going to dive into production head first and invest some coin. At that time, it was the ASR10, which then, was an investment and served as a workstation.
But now?
Just raising some skepticism here. Maybe I am used to limitations, in which, things like this seem to be dissolving. In which I, on one hand look at and say "Wow", but on the other, know it really all comes down to my artistry and discipline.
Also, the colors of the pads don't turn me on too much. I am more of a warm-hue guy.

yeah computer's great, yeah.

but it's also a mental block.
once you really get fed up with it.

hardware often doesn't need a save. switch it on, it boots in seconds,
and takes you to where you left off. not all things, of course.
but typically those are nice things.

standalone device is pretty good. with computer, it's just a controller, and
you have to go through the whole OS 'system'. it's like 'getting permission'.

that sort of thing. theoretically.

oh, i forgot, and you're reliant on a mouse, and the screen.
ok, so i now have to use glasses to look at lcds

Interesting it has it's own OS and pretty amazing they built a standalone push before Ableton did. If the MPCs hadn't existed before, this would be a mind blowing release.

From the video, there are a lot of missing pieces. FX, song mode, software integration? If it's just an emulation of the session view I would he disappointed (or it wouldn't be for me). And does it have the software switchability that the MPCs have? But overall looks like a great product.

Since the screen is not tiltable, will it not be tiresome after working some time on it since one need to lean over to actually view all the info and work on the screen? It looks to me the screen is too far out from the user.
