Rev2 or not Rev2?
After reading everything there was to read, looking at tests and reviews on the tube, and after considering every word and every comma on this thread, I finally decided: Prophet Rev2.

great choice! 8 or 16?
I bought the 8 but soon realised I needed 16 voices so I got the upgrade.

Cool choice, love my rev2. Don't forget if you have Omnisphere to link it up as a hardware controller for that as well, its really cool controlling Omnisphere like that..
I only have the 8 voice but def going to pick up the voice card and go to 16 at some point.

Thanks @ Digital , I still don't have Omnisphere, even though I'm very interested in buying it.
For the moment it intrigues me to turn physical knobs and enjoy analog sounds!

I spent some time in a local music shop testing modern synths and the ones I would get without hesitation today: DSI rev2, OB6, Moog Subsequent 37. All of them have a very strong and absolutely beautiful characteric sound.

Not true at all.

The limitation is that its channel aftertouch, so any aftertouch applied is sent to both, less of a concern on stacked patches, but could be a nuisance on split ones.

I'm on OS 1.15.9 btw

Ah! I thought that a bit strange that there’d be no aftertouch on layer B! Thank you for clarifying that.

I use my Rev2 exclusively as a bi-timbral controller for tier 2 in my gig rig.

What happens in Multimode, where for example layer A is on channel 2 (for bass) and layer B is on channel 3, the aftertouch messages only send on the base channel (2 in this case).

Practically, that means when you try to use aftertouch for a lead sound on 3, nada.

Likewise, aftertouch on layer B still doesn't result in that channel 3 vibrato for your lead. I sent my MIDI OX output to DSI/Sequential support and they pretty much just said "working as intended."

I resorted to getting a Mio4 and re-channelizing aftertouch to channel 3 to get aftertouch vibrato.

Not totally true either. Aftertouch is only sent to the lower channel, but not sent to layer B's channel when Rev2 is in Multimode. MIDI-Ox will verify this. OS 1.15.6

Notice that in the example below Note On is on a different channel than the aftertouch info.

I’ve definitely had a lot of fun programming and playing a Rev2 at times. One hell of a modulation beast, and nice keys. Fair interface too - not my favourite, but pretty decent.

Seems reasonable for the price, IMO.

That's a different issue that I'm unable to verify, nor was it what you originally claimed or at least could be interpreted as claiming.
From its own keyboard it sends aftertouch to both layers.

Ah, fair enough. Correction:

Rev2 does not externally transmit aftertouch on layer B / second MIDI channel.
Locally, all layers respond to aftertouch.

Yes, I think you're right. My concern is whether it's enough of a difference from my Peak, but I think it will be. Plus, my biggest gripe with the Peak is that it's a module and that the 3rd EG is on shared sliders. That really, really annoys me. They should have put the 3rd EG in the space where the 2nd LFO sits and made the 1st LFO switchable. But I digress.

Basically I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a Rev2 as I'm already hovering over the buy button.

The REV2 is pretty impressive, I think, in the mod department. It has a fizzy filter which is very different to the Prologue, so it extends the palette quite well. One thing I miss in it, which is great feature in the prologue, is the voice mode pot, for detuning etc. This is hidden in the misc param menu, but I wished it was exposed. The keybed is very good too. I think the 16 is probably a better option than the 8 because of the layering possibilities. I got the 8 but upgraded once I figured that out.

Here's a vid where I use the two stacked up (via midi) for a big sound and a bit of fun

Yeah, plus the 24dB filter will be a good contrast too. I have to say, that as much as I love my Peak I nearly never use the 24dB LP filter. I just don't like the sound of it. I think the Rev2 and Prologue will complement themselves quite nicely.

Ah right - thanks for the heads-up! I'll need to have a good look through them there menus! Are there any obvious known issues that I should know about?

Yes, I specifically got the 16 for the Prologue for layering and these days I'm pretty much using a layer with every patch so I went with the 16 Rev2 also because of that reason.

I just made the jump into a Rev 2, I did have a hard time deciding between Rev2 16 and Prologue 16, but in the end I do love the keybed on the Rev2, it's not bad on the Prologue but felt so much better on the Rev2. Also had the feeling that Rev 2 had more of an opened soun, know this is all subejctive but…….I found a companion in the Rev 2 to add to my collection.

From playing with one in the store, I really love the way the Rev2 sounds. But I've never touched or played with an OB6 and am wondering if buying a Rev2 is a bad idea. I have the budget for one of the two. I have a lot of vintage stuff already.
