YouTube seems to have removed this clip so a bit of circumvention.

More Roger Powell. This time on Arp Odyssey, with Bowie. This intro is why synthesizers were invented. Just some rhythmic noise setting up a mood and foundation for great things.

Too bad I don't know how to embed a video on this board.
Done.
Cool.

Manfred The Magnificent, master of the minimoog! Tears it up at 2:00 and 19:00. Demonstrating that a real 'D' is a complete instrument in and of itself.

Manfred Mann is a massively underrated exponent of the SEM as well as the D. There's some great Earthband performances out there. Was Mann the first to use synths in the blues?

Anyway, here's a much better-known exponent of twelve-bar blues with electronics. I haven't paid much attention to Depeche since the departure of Alan Wilder, but this is a decent live performance:

Another one. Here he's using a different synth. At 1:48 the fun starts!
What synth is that he's playing?

Definitely an oberheim SEM module. Maybe a 2-voice?

That is really cool. It reminds me of when I used to play live; I can imagine the different feel of each of my keyboards and how I would play a little differently on each one. They were each their own instrument, just like my trumpets, trombones, flugelhorns have to be played differently. Really neat. Thanks.

Great thread! I'll throw this one in , It's not a live performance but multitracked using nothing but a Roland SH-1000 with some reverb & delay. I hadn't given much thought to the synth until I saw this video.

I had to add this one too. When i was a kid my mom's BF came home with this album, it had just come out. It was my first exposure to synth music and i was forever hooked.

Please check out Synthi62 on YT. The above demo of a Minimoog doesn’t really take off until after 4.00 mins. I love it. Enjoy
