Asides from a few Sequential synths, the Polymoog used these.

Just to feed the rumourmill a little..

Now Roland can pull their finger out and give us a modern JP6/MKS80 with even more digital control, LFOs etc.

But they probably won't.

I believe white dot is just hand selected chips to a specific range of close tolerances

Yeah, this is great news. I have an OB-8, MKS-80 and SH-101. I would definitely purchase a nice batch of spares at that price.

Yeah, something like that IIRC. I'd still like to avoid having to hand select them myself, though.

Although my tech guy would probably be up for it. Hmmm.

Guys, let's make sure these things are all bought up swiftly. We need to let manufacturers know that there is a real market for these old chips. The 3340 isn't the only one we've been running out of, after all.

Instead, Roland would make a new digital *emulation* of the new chip...9 years in future.

I assume you are being sarcastic, but I can't help but wonder if Dave Smith has anything to do with this... Maybe these will show up in his upcoming "big" synth?

The Memorymoog did, along with a whole bunch of CEM3310 envelope generators. The Polymoog, however, has no Curtis chips in it. It does have a couple of uA726 heated NPN pairs which are somewhat troublesome to find and it would be nice if these were made again.

Prophet 600 owners should be happy.

And wouldn't surprise me if Dave Smith is planning on using them in his next DSI flagship synth, which by my calculations should be next year

there's too much good stuff coming from DSI, I can't keep up!
hit ob6 now, wait for the next bigger hit!
smart thing would be to wait for the next hit for folks to unload their ob6...

This is the greatest news possible.

A couple of years ago I had some email exchange with one of the major synth makers and he said back then, he tried to convince Onchip (successor of Curtis Electronics ) to recreate the CEM3340 and some other chips and remember he said that it is some hope for this to happen. Since that discussion I was waiting for this moment.

This is still one of the greatest sounding and most stable and versatile oscillators, even after almost four decades.
Not only will make servicing and prolonging the life of vintage synth a reality but also will open the possibility to create new great sounding analog poly synth. Also the modular community will have again access to CEM3340 VCOs.

They should also recreate the CEM3320 because it has a very nice sound and they are also needed to keep vintage synths alive.

A list of synth that used CEM3340:
-Roland Jupiter6, MKS80, SH101
-Oberheim OB-XA OB8, OB-SX
-Sequential PROPHET 5, 10, 600, PRO-one
-MOOG Memorymoog
-Voyetra
-Doepfer high end VCO
-Digisound VCO
-SyrinX

This is fantastic news! With nearly 50 of these chips sitting inside various synths in my studio, I'm greatly relieved!
